Has anyone every had a re-injury after ACL Knee surgery? Last year I trashed my knee on a trampoline. I tore the ACL + a whole bunch of other stuff. I was actually told that I pretty much did everything I could to my knee except break it, and would have been better off if I just broke it. I had ACL surgery but couldn't go to physio due to no medical insurance for it. Lately it's been very painful and feels unstable again. Has anyone else ever have this experience. If so, did a re-injury occur?
After ACL knee surgery I have a problem kneeling down.? I had my ACL repaired about 2 years ago. I am now taking classes towards my EMT degree and recently had to get CPR certified. Most of the class was spent kneeling over the manikins practicing. I could only do this a few times before the pain was unbearable. Does anyone have any tips of strengthening my knees both internally along with the outside of the knee to help with the pain from kneeling. Thanks. Why would the bones be hurting? Is there anything I can do to help this?

Is it normal to have popping in your knee 1 year after ACL surgery? I had ACL reconstruction surgery last year about this time. I went through all the rehab and everything, and the doctors said I could play lacrosse in the spring, so I did. Everything was fine, minus a few occasional spurts of pain. But a few months ago, my knee began popping again, and painfully, sometimes it hurt to walk and put pressure on it. I don't know what's wrong with it. Should I go see my doctor again?
ACL/knee surgery question? I had knee surgery on June 8th to remove a giant cell tumor. They said they ended up resecting part of my ACL during the surgery and now its very loose. But he said he wouldnt do surgery (which he said he'd have to put a new ACL in b/c he cant reconstruct it) b/c I'm not athletic?!? If he did the damage; shouldnt he be responsible to fix it? He told me before the surgery that he would reconstruct it at a later date if they did have take it out. Now I'm going to have to go through PT to retrain my hamstring to work as my ACL ? Is that normal? And I have RSD now b/c of the knee surgery (and an arthoscopy I had to have 3 wks ago). I just dont know what to do.

What causes clicking in knee that had ACL surgery in 1993? Surgery was so sucessful that was able to ski. Clicking started one year ago. Twisted going down stairs week ago. Temporarily locked up. Now swollen.
Knee ACL surgery question.? I dislocated my patella about 6 weeks ago in a fall from my bmx, and I have an MRI scheduled in a week, which I feel almost certain is going to show a partially or fully torn ACL, since I still can't bend my knee past 90 degrees, although I can walk normally and there is little to no pain and swelling at the knee. If this is the case, I plan to have surgery as soon as possible to repair it. I do competitive bmx flatland, and have a major competition in January '09. This sport requires my injured leg to act as a balance mechanisim, mostly, and occasionally it's required to kick/scuff the tyres, so there's little impact on the knee joints. Given this, if I have surgery in the beginning of September, would I be fully revovered, or well enough to give it my all in late January at the comp..?? How soon after can I start riding again? I'm 31yrs old and train with weights regularly, so I would be hitting my PT hard to speed my recovery. How long does a full recovery normally take..??
has any1 had ACL knee surgery???? i had knee surgery in november and i wanna be able to play soccer in febuary, if you had knee surgery how long was it untill you could play sports and how did u get back into shape?? thanks
i just got knee surgery for a torn acl..why is there a huge bruise behind my kneecap? i'm pretty nervous? i got my acl surgery on thursday. there was only very little bruising until today. now there is a huge thick line of dark painful bruising running from the back of my kneecap to halfway down my calf. i plan on calling my surgeon tomorrow morning, but i'm scared it's a deadly blood clot or something.
What should I expect from acl surgery on my knee? I'm having it in 2 days and i'm really scared
has anyone ever had acl knee surgery? if so, tell me some of the procedure and how it felt afterwards, was it bad, did it hurt, did you have to stay in the hospital?
Knee reconstruction surgery (ACL) is it ok to wait 1 to 2 years? I’m 23 years old and recently ruptured my ACL completely in an accident. I don’t have private health insurance. I can either pay around $8000 and get it done privately or get on the waiting list for the public hospital, which will take 1 to 2 years. I plan on taking out health cover with the option of claiming in a year. If I have to wait 2 years, what sort of risks are there and will my mobility be severely limited?
Had acl surgery, How long before i can bend my knee to 90 degrees? Had a graft from my patellar tendon, had surgery 15 days ago can bend it about 25 degrees but i don't see any progress i start PT tomorrow i just want to bend my knee, anybody know a timetable?
I recently had ACL surgery on my right knee 4 days ago. How long does it take for the pain to go away? It gets better and better as each day goes by but it still takes two people to change my clothes and put me in my machine. Also i have had problems going #2 but i think it is because of the pain meds so is the best advice a stool softener for that?
how hard to get a waiver for acl surgery? just wanna know how hard it is to get a waiver to join the army or army reserve after having knee surgery. just the acl, all other tendons were fine no grinding or catching of bones. and any tips that would help. don't need to know how far you gotta run.. just asked about the waiver.. thanx though
My Golden needs a 2nd ACL surgery, I need advice? My Golden Retriever, 7 years old, had ACL knee surgery on 4/25/07. We thought it was a horrendous surgery based on how our dog behaved. He was depressed for weeks it seemed, and he is a normally happy go-lucky guy. About 6 weeks into recovery, he re-injured the knee. We aren't even sure how it happened. We think it was when the cat startled him and he jumped up from sleep. Just not sure. We were so careful and just bad luck. We took him back to the vet, and he said to re-check him when he was about 4 months past the surgery. We took him in and he did the 'drawer' test and confirmed he needed it again. He said either the strong filament substance that he wrapped tore or that the line separated where it was attached to the knee. Whatever, but he said he is in good shape and should be fine. He does favor the leg and won't lay down with it under him, but I don't think he's in pain right now. He will be 8 years old 9/28/07. Should we see another vet and can it wait until 11/07 safely?
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get my knee and muscles back into shape after ACL surgery? I just had ACL reconstruction surgery and i'm freaking out a little because my smart self decided i could rehab. my leg on my own and it got in the way of work so i stopped my physical therapy (i'm a physical therapy session drop-out). Now i'm going nuts because everywhere i look on the internet the people's comments all say they never went back to 100% mobility with their knee, and sometimes it was worse because they did nothing afterward. i don't even know where to start with exercises and i'm craving cardio and i don't have a bike, which is what the woman had me use in p.t.. So i guess i also wanna know if anyone knows of some type of cardio that i could do also. All in all can anyone help me with this?
recently I have been considering joining the canadian forces, in 2004 i had a knee surgery however for my acl? I follow a very strict boxing regement and i am in tip top shape, and my surgeon says that i made a full recovery to 100%. If it came down to me completing the physical there would be no problem however im sure the forces frown on torn acls... It seems my dream of joining the forces has holes in it :(

I tore my ACL in my knee years ago. What are the pros and cons of reconstructive surgery? If you had the surgery, any regrets? Has the surgery stabilized your knee? Any helpful insight appreciated.

Knee Pops Out Of Place...What Are Some Good Knee Exercises After ACL Surgery?? I had ACL surgery in 2002 and also for a dislocated bone... I went to physical therapy but had to quit really early because of the payments...from time to time my knee still pops out of place and i cant straighten it and i have to pop it back in place which hurts SOOOO bad...It mostly pops when i have it at an angle to where my calf is goin to touch my thigh so i always sit and lay with my leg straight, it just isn't worth the pain. I want to be able to sit with my legs crossed again and not have to worry about keeping my leg straight because its might pop...please if u have had or have this problem what are some things/exercises I can do to strenghthen my knee and prevent this from happening???
any successful knee surgery stories? (torn acl/meniscus)? i just need some motivation to work harder on my rehad for my knee.. i tore 40% of my ACL and my meniscus last year in may. its been a little over a year since my surgery and my leg can no longer straighten, the straightest it goes is about 3 degrees. inspire me with some stories.. and include how long it took to recover!
I had acl reconstructive surgery but my knee still hurts. What should I do? I had ACL surgery about 4-5 years ago and went through the whole therapy. Everything was back to normal, I could run, jump, etc. About a year ago while running, i got a sharp pain on the outside of my knee. I went to my doctor and he said everything looked fine. He gave me all kinds of treatments but the pain was still there. Finally, he decided to do a surgery to just look inside my knee and said he cleaned everthing out and that everything was ok. I wait till the pain from surgery goes away which took about a month or two, and start to jog. Everything seems normal for about 10 minutes and then it starts hurting again. I really don't know what to do anymore. My doctor just says that i need to work it out to regain muscle but I really don't see how that would take away the pain. I can run for like 10 minutes and then the pain comes to the point where it hurts when i walk normal. It doesn't hurt when i step on my knee, it hurts when i pick my leg up behind me. Any suggestions? Would I be able to know exactly whats wrong with my knee if I got an MRI cause when I go to my doctor he just checks it with his hands and says that everything looks good.
Can this knee surgery disqualify me for deployment? I had ACL reconstructive surgery 6 months ago. I have two screws in my knee and they took out some cartilage. I can't get an asnwer on if this will disqualify me for deployment.
I am considering a revision ACL surgery (2nd surgery) but my knee isn't that bad, what are peoples opinion? Basically I can play tennis and do the activities I want to. I just found out that my ACL is gone again per the MRI. However, I am very close to doing all the sports I want to without the surgery. I can even improve the muscles around my knee as it's obvious my knee isn't as muscled as my good knee. I know that revisions are less prone to success and all the new rehab. I suppose I am also wondering why I'm not more unstable if the ACL is gone. In 10 matches of tennis, for example, I might only feel a wobble once, otherwise I'm not bad. Of course I don't go for every ball and I do 'know' to be careful which does mentally restrict your ability on the court. That said, it seems like my ACL 'tear' is not affecting me that bad. Thoughts and opinions from others in same situation much appreciated.
ACL Surgery on November 17, Doctor is using my other knee to take the patella out. Anyone been through this? *sorry patella tendon* I tore my left acl playing basketball, the doctor is going to take a piece of my patella tendon from the right knee and put it in my left. Has anyone had this done? And how long until I can put pressure on either leg?
how long does it take to recover from ACL surgery? I am having an ACL knee reconstruction and I wonder how long it takes to get better?
How did your dog's ACL ligament surgery turn out? I have a 35 lb cocker spaniel who is limping and doesn't feel good and our Vet says she needs surgery to repair a degenerated ACL knee ligament. We have elected to have our normal Vet do it rather than an Ortho specialist, for cost (our dog is almost 11). How did your dog's surgery turn out? We know that the other knee has a 50% chance of going too, later. Anyone try NSAIDs and a sling and carrying her around rather than the trauma of surgery? Dog_Trainer, brilliant answer! Are you familiar with Michael Richards, DVM, who also advises against this surgery for older dogs? He says there is absolutely no long term research that shows that it helps. I've cancelled the surgery and ordered more kennels and two slings, with the thousands I've saved. Thank you EVER so much.
Does icing and elevating the knee after an ACL Surgery help? does it help you recover and does it keep the swelling down ill give u 10 points if u answer
Knee surgery after a Slip & Fall resulting from poor construction of deck? I suffered a severe knee injury that required ACL surgery. I fell off my deck because the handrails were too short and I ended up missing out on almost 3 steps. I stepped down and crushed my the joint resulting in tears to the cartilage and the ligaments. I took almost a month off from my school/research (i am a PhD student) and taken half days where I have had to go to the doctor or to physical therapy, this has set me back in my studies quite a bit. What should I expect as a settlement award from the insurance company if my medical insurance was able to completely cover the cost of my medical expenses? Shouldnt I be able to recieve compensation for pain and suffering and loss of mobility etc.? Thank you :) 1. You dont have to be rude. Use that energy for actually reading my quesion instead of jumping to conclusions about who I am as a person. 2. Its not my house...i am renting an apartment. The landlord is actually extremely negligant..fails to respond to tenants demands as far as maintanence and repair. 3. It was 9pm at night and the lights on the porch do not work either (that is another thing....since i have asked him time and time again to fix them)....the deck is brand new because the one he had before was cited by the city for not being "to code"...anyone could have missed those last 3 steps (including your pregnant wife or your mother). In any case, the city has come out as well indepdendent contractors and found that this new deck is "defective and dangerous". So that is not the question...the question is what is the typical settlement awarded for this type of case. Oh yes...I do have a personal injury attorney who has been working on this case for about 4 months now. The landlord insurance wants to know what the settlement demand is.
Do I need to wear a knee brace when I return to sports after a second knee surgery? This year has been the worst for my left knee. I tore my ACL in Jan. had reconstructive surgery in March. Tore the cartilage in my knee in June had surgery on October 22nd. Should I wear a brace when I go back to sports to prevent any more trauma to my knee? I play golf and basketball.
3rd Knee surgery or not? I had ACL/Meniscus and microfracture puncturing.? I hurt myself playing soccer. I had ACL reconstruction with a meniscus repair. After complaining that the knee was grinding they went in and did a second surgery. They found the t-grove all chewed up and the meniscus need to be cut out. I did the surgery and they did microfracture punturing of the t-groove. Now my knee still is popping and grinding. My doctor suggested a 3rd surgery to do a lateral release and cartiledge repair.l Has anyone had to deal with this before and what was the outcome? I don't know if it is worth a 3rd surgery. i am only 28 years old and have the rest of my life to live with my decision.
had ACL surgery 5 months ago, when i bend my knee i feel/hear a crunching sound? is it normal? i had an acl reconstruction 5 monthd ago, when i bend my knee i feel and hear a crunching sound. is it normal
Knee injury & surgery resulting from poorly constructed deck -legal action? Thank you :) oops left out some important info: I dont own the property. I rented it. And the city has already come out and taken a look at the deck and said its defective and dangerous. This is the 3rd deck this guy has build in 5yrs due to coding violations. Mentioning that I am a graduate student and losing a lot of time in my work shouldnt sound pretentious if it is the truth. I just want my bills taken care of and to have some compensation (lol@1million) for enduring pain from the fall and pain from the surgery/recovery.
Knee pops out regularly, years after ACL surgery? This is on behalf of my g/f. She had ACL surgery about 5 years ago following a soccer injury. Then, about 2-3 years ago while dancing her knee suddenly "popped" out of place accompanied with significant pain. She spent several minutes manipulating it until the right pressure made it pop back into place. After that, it began happening maybe a few times a month with even less severe activities involved. Now in the last few months, it happens as much as 5-6 times a week and from things as simple as just walking or standing. She has no money to see doctors (especially not specialists) and her job offers no insurance, but even if they did, it would probably be considered a pre-existing condition. Any advise I can give her? Is there some physical exercises that can help build surrounding muscles?
How long does the actual acl surgery take? I am getting acl reconstruction on my knee tomorrow. I am using a hamstring to repair it. How long will surgery take ?? an hour ?? more ?
Numbness around the knee 3 weeks after acl surgery. How long will it be numb? I had an acl repair with semitendonosis augmentation on June 20th, 2008. An ACL repair with semitendonosis augmentation is a fancy way to say an ACL reconstruction using a hamstring graft for open growth plates. I had a completely torn ACL. Well i used crutches for 2 days and ive been on a bike for a week now. however below my knee i still have numbness. How long will that be there? Will i ever get it back?
how swollen should my knee get after reconstructive ACL and meniscus surgery? i had an acl graft from my patella, put two screws in there, and they stitched my meiscus back into place. How swollen do knees usually get, and where do they swell up? and what is the best way to clean around my stitches? my surgery was just 4 days ago, and i am going to see the doctor again in a week or so
2months ago i had acl,pcl and lcl surgery which are the main ligaments of the knee and i received a? donors acl,pcl and lcl, would it be apropriate to send a like a thank you card to the family of the person who i received it from.
torn ACL 2 years ago, and refuse surgery is a knee brace ok ? is it ok to play light soccer with a torn acl and a knee brace?
Post ACL surgery should I be worried (knee crushed in car accident)? It has been a year now since my surgery and I have been taking it easy on my knee for fear of ripping the auto graft. I have not been very active besides the 2 mths of physical therapy but I returned to work after 6 mths doing plenty of walking and lifting around the hospital. I have been medically discharged (it has been a year now) but now it is starting to act up on me. I tryed to go bowling and could not even make it through 2 games because my knee felt fairly wobbly and slightly painfull. I am getting freaked out because I still do not feel comfortable running and it pops as I bring it back and forth. I even still sleep with a pillow under my knee at night to rest it. I was so optimistic a couple of mths ago and now I feel like the graft didn't hold (its not even comfy to sleep on my side). Man this is frustrating should I be exercising more or just letting it heal? Is this at all normal? Any input? I am afraid of living the rest of my life as a cripple. Kevin
Recovery time from ACL revision surgery. This will be 5th surgery on knee, microfracture 5 month's ago.? I had an ACL Patella Tendon graft done in 1996, Microfracture in 2000 with meniscus repair. Then Feb 2007 microfracture, now need acl revision. How long am I looking at for recovery and time out of work. I have a very physical job lot's of bending heavy lifting, up and down steps etc. I have read 4 months is that correct. Also sorry to be long winded, after surgery when do you start rehab, I have read anywhere from 4-6 weeks is that correct? Thanks for all your help.
What later stage rehab knee exercises would you recommend for post-ACL surgery 6 months ago? btw, i'm not asking for a diagnosis, just asking for whether biking, specific yoga positions, can get me back to 100% -- doctors who are worried about liability or people who have not experienced this do not need to answer.
dress for a wedding-acl knee brace that goes down to my ankle- do i cover it with a longer dress? i am going to my boyfriend's uncle's wedding and at that point it will be 3 weeks after my cl knee surgery and i still have to wear my brace that goes from thigh to ankle... big and black and not exactly fashionaable... i need help, do i cover it with a long dress or just deal with the constant questions and funny looks from people i dont know... pictures with suggestions would be lovely... :-)
Is my knee okay to do MMA,Jujitsu, kick boxing? I had an ACL surgery 5 and a half months ago.? ok i had a complete ACL tear last year, i went to surgery and got it reconstructed. I got the surgery on August 17 2007. Its now 5 and a half months ago. I am interrested in joining MMA/Brazilian Jujitsu Classes/Training. Well my knee be okay to join the classes? knee injury... surgery... HELP...? ok. my left knee gave out on March 17th and when this happened i felt somthing ripping within my knee, and have since been in an immobolizer and having to use crutches. I went to a knee specialist on Monday and he said that based on my physical exam, symptoms, and what he could see on my MRI films(they all wouldnt load, for some reason)... he is pretty sure that i have either a chondral fracture, an ACL tear, or both... my knee is still very swollen, tender and unstable... I am having to go through 3 wks of PT to try and regain some ROM, and reduce the swelling before i have surgery... I will either be having ACL reconstruction, Microfracture, or (worse case) both... I have done the research on the ACL surgery but cant seem to find much info on the Microfracture.. What can i expect as far as recovery goes? and how soon after either surgery will i be able to return to sports... i am a competitve cheerleader(and would like to be able to start the season in October)

Which ACL surgery is better I'm deiding on 2 options this is my second rupture on the same knee? 1st option wait till my growth plates are closed so and have an adult operation which is the best operation possible but, im highly involved in sports and waiting would absolutly kill me. Or. 2nd option use a bigger graft and risk a 5% chance of rupturing a growth plate Am i crazy if i want the 2nd option help me!
Do I really need to get surgery for my ACL tear in my knee or could I just go on without it? I mean I go to physical therapy and I can walk on it and I will soon be fitted with a custom ACL brace so that I believe I can be somewhat active again.

how long will it take me to ski/hike/run again after surgery on my knee due to an ACL tear? I injured my knee in March of this year (2007) and I've only been able to see a PT four times since then. long story short-they didn't want to take my insurance anymore, and it took awhile to get a new PT. The knee is STILL swollen three months after the injury date and I cannot bend it fully. it feels like life is over.
I worked for a real Jerk, I told him for the last 6 months about a knee surgery. he fired me.? On the telephone the employer said he wanted to discuss seperation. I then filed the Federal Medical Leave Act. The employer says i am not elligable. Question: Do you think in a court of law with a perfect employment record, 128% of quota, no write ups, ect. A jury would say, I was fired for retalation in needing ACL surgery? Or the employer is just.? Please let me know
Knee ACL replacement? I am soon to have ACL replacement surgery. I was given 2 options: to take an implant from my own knee or from a donor. I am leaning towards using an ACL from a donor since rehab is easier and I don't need to use my own body resources. If you had ACL repair what was your experience and did you use a donor's ACL, and what was the result? Also, did you undergo the surgery under general or local anesthesia? Thanks! Alex
I have a torn pcl and lcl, my acl is a cadavers. I need a knee expert to help me decide about surgery.? Knee surgery? I am 19 and had 1 surgeries for my dislocated my knee, and tore my ACL, LCL, and MCL and had to have the tendon on the front on my knee used to help restore the tendon on the side of my knee.A second surgery to rerepair my shattered meniscus, acl and MCL. My doctor said the best excercise for me is to water aerobics, and restricted me to no speed walking, excersise bikes, or treadmills. and I have had third opinions from doctors and they have said the same thing!! I have done all my therapies, and somehow doing my therapies re injured my knee...i dont wear heels, i dont run, walk, or stand on long on my knee for long periods of time. and I still need a third knee surgery. I felt that this second knee surgery has made my life living with my knee uncomfortable. so debating on the 3rd knee surgery!
Knee Injuries: Anyone here tear their ACL and meniscus before? If so, did you know it right away? Surgery? Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here has torn their ACL and meniscus in their knee? I think I did both and will be seeing the doctor tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone tore their ACL and didn't know it- like maybe you thought it was "just a sprain" or something like that. The things is I really twisted my knee and couldn't even walk for like 2 days. Now I can't bend my knee past 90 degrees and can't extend it so that it "locks out" all the way. People have told me that you could have a torn ACL and be walking around. I walk with a limp and can't stand for a long period of time without feeling soreness in my knee. It's been 5 weeks and there has been no change in my knee. I can't even ride a bike! Anybody with helpful information, please help!
what is the recovery time for acl knee surgery??? Will i be able to at least get around on a cane or limp or will i be unable to not completely walk ??Only on cruches????
After knee surgery 4 years ago, my knee is still really sensitive - I can't put pressure on it. Normal? It's been four years since I had surgery. I dislocated my knee, andI tore my ACL, LCL, and MCL and had to have the tendon on the front on my knee used to help restore the tendon on the side of my knee. Unfortunately, I still can't put any pressure on this knee. There's too much pain. I walk perfectly fine, but I can't stand on my knees or anything like that. I'm only 22! Are there any exercises that could help strengthen the weakened area, or am I up the creek without a paddle?
how to get my older dog to use her leg after knee surgery? late year my 11 yo dog tore the acl's in her knee..it was the end of august she had the surgery. weather turned off cold and bad after her 6 wk restrictions were up so she was unable to rip n run due to muddy outside though we did take her for walk..wouldnt let her lie on ground because of arthritis...over the winter she figured out she could drag her rear with her front legs and still keep moving. when we tell her to use her leg she will walk on it fine but she has gotten so lazy over the winter it drives me crazy at times seeing her drag herself..for 11 yrs old she is still very alert and active but just wont use her leg like she should. she is in no pain now and vet said she is just being lazy which is what i knew all along. i even tried one day wrapping a towel around her to support her to help her use the leg more and after she figured what i was doing she quit using both legs so i stopped that. just need to know how to make lazy ole granny use that leg more
I had ACL surgery 2 years ago...? The recovery wasn't successful, right now my doctor told me that I need another surgery because some cartilages inside the knee has some damages and the, and the ACL itself that was resonstructed has a tear. Furthermore my doctor told me that my knee wouldn' be that as normal as it would be, because of the two ACL surgey that was done. Speaking truthfully as an athlete, I was crushed! An athletes worse nightmare is not to be able to play the game he/she loves... Is there a possibility I could come back playing? :(
Has anyone eelse had ACL surgery?? has anyone out there had ACL reconstruction surgery?? if so, how's your knee?? i'm 6 weeks, how much better should i be?? how long till i can play soccer again??
would it be a good idea to play football after you just had surgery on your acl? I just had surgery on my knee for my acl and I tore it, and I want to play football but people are telling me that i shouldnt play because a guy will go for my knee and tear it again but then i wont be able to use it again.. But I am good in football but better in basketball but i want to get a scholarship for both and i dont kno wat to do.. And we suck in football and my basketball team need me cuz we got a chance of going to state.. What should I do..?
i've had knee surgery before, is it ok to workout legs? i had knee surgery about 2 years ago. I had acl, pcl, and meniscus repair on my right knee. sometimes when i workout my legs, my knee swells up a bit, and sometimes the muscle on the back of my knee hurts a bit. Should i continue working out my legs with less weight? my doctor also told me that when i workout my legs, i should not do full motions. he said to stop around a 90 degree angle. i haven't gone back to the doctor in a while since he charges a lot per session. i do also play basketball a lot but i never really get any problems playing basketball.
Does who had acl surgery plz help? Anybody who had acl surgery plz help? who does my knees still feel loose after 6 months of surgery? I thought it should be close to full recovery? Will it be permenant?
Any tips on getting back to sports after ACL surgery? I play rugby and I tore my ACL last season when I twisted my knee on astro-turf. It was a full tear, so they did reconstructive surgery to replace the old ACL with a piece of my patella tendon. Its been about 5 months now and I've gone through some physical therapy and started training for the upcoming rugby season by running, biking, etc. The knee's still a little week right now, but I want to make sure its good and strong for rugby season in august to insure that this injury doesn't happen again. Has anybody had this injury and returned to sports only to tare it again? If so, what did you do to injure it again and how to avoid the injury? The doc says I'll can be back in the game after 5-6 months of healing. He does surgery for D-I athletes at Mizzou
A mongh after ACL/meniscus surgery, is popping normal? I had my medial meniscus repaired and some of my lateral meniscus taken out and a cadaver ACL put in a month ago. I started rehab two days after surgery and my knee started popping a week ago. It only pops when I straighten it and it hurts when it happens. I have also been on crutches for a month so it's not like I've been putting a lot of pressure on it. Is this normal?
I have tendinitis and a clicking on the outside of my knee. What exercises can I do? I got a new pair of shoes to improve my running performance Problem is, I had high stability shoes when I needed no stability. This lasted for almost 2 months and my knees started to really hurt. I've had one reconstructive knee surgery (ACL) and now the same knee has a clicking on the outside of the knee. The pain was so bad after a long run that I would have trouble walking. So, I went to the doctor, he said I had tendinitis and should take some time off, 2 weeks. Well, I've taken the two weeks, and while the pain is gone, the "clicking/popping" on the outside of the knee is still there. I am going to wait into the new year to run, but I was wondering what types of exercises would not flair up the tendinitis? I don't have access to a pool for swimming. I am looking for a cardio exercise, is a low impact eliptical machine ok? Runners, what do you recommend?
When can I start driving after ACL surgery? Just had my ACL reconstructed and menicus reconstructed in my left knee today morning. About how long before I can start driving? Is it normal for my knee to not be in pain at the moment? Please people with this surgery give me some input. Thanks

Is knee surgery disqualifying for military service? recontstructive surgery from torn ACL
Uninsured And Injured: I Tore My ACL (knee), HELP!? I tore my ACL playing sports, but unfortunately I only had a short-term medical plan. It appeared I'd be covered, but my surgery date went beyond my coverage so when I went to extend (they call it Re-Applying) for coverage they dropped me on my butt. The surgery were I to pay out of pocket is astronomically high (approx 15,000), but I am looking for any alternate suggestions for me to get aid in having my surgery completed. If you would like to donate to my knee charity, please send money or checks to: JK! Seriously- help, I'm not sure where to turn, I really do need this surgery, but obviously I don't want to owe 15,000 bucks. Thanks for you help! Great answers so far. Let's review: I can go to church (I'm a Jew... nevertheless, I doubt it's an option, my parents are poor but have offered to get a second down on their home (there's a reason they are poor...), there's a suggestion to leave it be until I raise the money - but I didn't mention I'm super active, and not exercising will get to be depressing after a while. Or there is my favorite so far, I can GO TO INDIA! Well, to be honest, I think there's a way to get it done here and I am going to find out. If the insurance can pull the rug out from under me so easily, there must be other loopholes I do not know about. The medical insurance game is alot like the car selling industry - pathetic and full of sharks. While I could do it in India and still have enough $$ to eat a nice curry after, I'll look for some other option here at home.
I tor my acl bad and my doc said that only 50% of the surgery patience recover good..? I feel that physical theropy is not working and I feel I need surgery, but my doc said that ACL surgery only helps half of its patience. What is the specs on that? Do only 50% really get better? What happens to the other 50%. Same or worse results? help, I am in pain and wonder what to do..... Should I get a second opinion? what would you do. (acl is my knee cap rubbing on other bones in knee area, basically the knee cap is sliding around in there,) (like dog hip displasia)
Is it possible to have two ACL recontruction surgeries on the same knee? First one, the hamstring graft was used, now i fear that i have torn it again, getting it checked soon, but is it possible to get back to normal after two surgeries on the same knee spaced 5 months apart?
ACL surgery and recovery(Should I got to rehab anymore?) LOL? I just had ACL surgery December 15th. It has been less than a month and I've only been through one week of rehab. I have little to no pain at all. I can bend my knee and straighten it all the way. Rehab seems like a joke seeing as I have a full gym in my basement and know the exercises to get my knee stronger (clearly). I know to take it easy w/ the knee no jumping or anything till I can get my stability and 3months of course! Rehab seems good to find out what exercises to use but thats it. Think I'll do fine w/ out going to rehab seeing as all thats in my way is healing and more strenthening? P.S. the girl has me doing flexibility crap that I can't do that much at all LOL and... working on balance which I'm terrible at. I fall down when I play tennis LOL (tripping over the feet of course) so anyways, I'm thinking about getting rid of the whole reahab in the next week or two seeing as I feel I can do the stuff on my own. Right thing to do?
Post ACL injury knee problems? I tore my left ACL (nothing else) playing intramural basketball in March '05. I had it rebuilt using an allograft (cadaver tissue) in May '05. I never regained total stability within my knee, and when playing sports, I find that my knee will slip as it did before the surgery. I currently have a large knee brace that helps moderately. Any suggestions on what I can do for stability? My second question is I am experiencing a great deal of popping and crackling within that same knee - much more so than pre-injury/surgery. Has anyone else encountered this as well? My final question is do people with this type of knee injury discover they develope arthritis in the injured knee? I have experienced some (possible) early signs of arthritis, and wanted to know if this is common or just dumb luck. Thank you!
How can I help my boyfriend after his ACL repair surgery? I am driving my boyfriend to and from the hospital for his surgery to repair his torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his knee. This is an outpatient procedure. Has anyone had this surgery before? Give me an idea of what to expect from him afterward...when the anesthesia wears off, etc. How can I help him feel comfortable? Give me some ideas!
Should I get a knee surgery? I particially torn my ACL and meniscus when I landed on the floor by playing basketball about two years ago. I have been trying to strengthen my knee and I feel better, but the pain is still there and I don't feel like normal comparing to my other knee. Some people told me to get a surgery, but some people are against it. WHAT DO YOU THINK? If people have experience on this and willing to give me informative answers, I would be appreciated.
TPLO Alternatives for ACL surgery for dog? My 2 year old Rott/Sheppard mix has two bad knees.. I've been told TPLO is the way to go. It's about $2k per knee. Is there a better option than surgery? Better alternatives? Is TPLO the best? Or is it just hype?? I called around and the price starts at about $4K a leg. $2k is the lowest I've found so far (I'm in Portland, OR). I also don't want to go for a lower quality surgery, just because it costs less. Seeing her happy again will be well worth it, I just want to make sure there's not something better than TPLO.
Has anyone undergone a ACL reconstruction surgery? i need to know about the benefits of the surgery.. is the knee come stablelized? are you feeling normal knee? how long will it take for healing after surgery? (if any one has undergone this surgery in Bangalore(india) please suggest the best orthopedician in bangalore ?

ACL surgery recovery? I'm 6 months post ACL repair by patellar allograft and a partial removal of a damaged medial meniscus on my right leg which is the dominant leg. I can do a one legged squat with my left leg all the way down to full knee flexion and get back up. I can only get to about 80, maybe 70 degree flexion on my right leg when I try a one legged squat on my right knee. Am I expecting too much too soon? Will my stronger dominant right leg ever be as strong as my left leg? will I ever be able to do a full one legged squat with my operated knee? I'm 48 and very active in sports, especially snow skiing and mountain biking.
Is it normal to be able to Walk around fairly normal 12 days after ACL surgery? I had my ACL replaced and a few other items fixed up on my knee on the 15th. I was on Crutches for about 5 days and now I'm walking with out them, my freinds are shocked, I don't see the big deal so is this normal. SUPE no Cadaver graft I did a Patella Graft or something like that but it came from me.
I had ACL surgery over a year ago and have a question on long term recovery? I had my surgery about a year ago and under went 6 months of physical therepy and everything was fine. I took a few months off from excersize and recently started again. I dove straight into running and now my knee hurts around the screws. I figured this is probably normal. Will it help the paid if i wore a knee brace? I figured the brace is for loose knees that need...a brace. I just dont wanna waste my money on something that doesnt help and cant return. Any help?
life after reconstructive knee surgery...help...lock ups? 2morrow (dec. 30th) will mark one year since i had my knee reconstructed. I had my ACL replaced and part of my meniscus taken out. i started snowboarding again this season even though i still have problems with it. after boarding it swells up which is to be expected. But one thing i don't understand is it locks up when i have been sitting for a while. I have to kick it out until it pops before i can walk on it and even then i gimp for a little bit before i can walk normal again (2-5 minutes). i notice this mostly when i go to leave my classes or get out of the car after driving for a while. does anyone know what is making this happen and what i can do to make it chill out?
Anybody who had acl surgery plz help? who does my knees still feel loose after 6 months of surgery? I thought it should be close to full recovery? Will it be permenant?
ACL Replacment Surgery? I am having problems with the screw in my knee. It has been 9 months since surgery and it feels like the screw is coming out of my leg??? Does any one have any experience with this???
Where should I go for a weekend, after my knee surgery? Any specific answers to this question, please keep it in VA, NC, or SC, as we are in NC and don't want to drive into Timbuktu The guy I'm seeing wants to take me to "the mountains, or the beach, or something..." after I recover (enough that I can walk, and we can enjoy one another's company, etc) from an allograft knee surg. I'm having done (I have no ACL). Beaches I'll either want to walk on, or end up swimming too much (can i even swim postop? i suppose i should ask...); if we go to the mountains I'm sure-as-hell gonna want to go hiking (I'm a granola munching tree hugger), which in small amoubnts might be good but I'd try to topple the Apps if I weren't stopped by intelligent friends.... What sort of place should I look for? If anyone knows specifics of the area, would be MUCH appreciatted.
Does a torn ACL need surgery? My husband injured his knee while working 5 years ago.The doctor was ready to do surgery, then decided to just do physical therapy. His knee has bothered him ever since but alot lately. It was workman's comp,he changed employers. Now nobody covers this injury. The only way to heal is with surgery that nobody covers and he needs 6 months to recover. We cannot afford to be without pay and to pay $20,000 for surgery, unless we move to Europe :-) and file for banctruptcy....
the parts of a human's knee and what function do they do? my son is having knee surgery to replace the acl and remove another part that runs along the side. any info would be helpful
It's been 3 months after my acl surgery and there is a little bone popping out close to my shin? what is it and how can I make it go down, it's affecting my rehab, my physical therapist told me it will go down with time and that I should either rest it and stop squating and doing things like that, or just tape it up and deal with the pain. I'm in a hurry to get back into the rugby field. could it be jumpers knee I'm getting?
MY dog had "acl" type surgery and have limited her exercise, but she is having trouble healing because of her drive, she likes to pull and chase squirrels, she is an out doorsy dog she is a pit bull 6 yrs we just spent 1000 on the operation and now she seems like she is worse of now than before she tore her knee cap shes 90lbs and a great family dog is there anything that i can do to help her heal. the vet says that alot of vets dont do this type of surgery and he only does about 4 or 5 a year because of the complications and the risk that it just might not work like i think this is whats happened with my dog i think she may have reinkured the same leg but cat be sure till we go to the vet. sometimes she is walking fine and at othertimes she can barely ut weight on it, HELP ME I CANT SPEND ANOTHER 1000 BUCKS
I Tore My ACL, but my doc said i dont need surgery? I play basketball often, and i would like to have surgery soon, but my doc said if my knee wasnt experiencing "buckling" or "locking"(which its not) then he recommended against surgery. my knee only hurts when i try to sraighten it all the way or try and squat down. but he wants me to get my range of motion back before surgery. so is this normal? why would he recommend against surgery?
Knee Recovery...Please Help!? I am 19 years old and I have had 3 knee surgeries in the past two years. When I was 17 I ripped my acl and meniscus, I had surgery and had everyting repaired. A year later i slipped and ripped my mesisus again and 5% of my acl. My dodctor decided not to repair my acl and just repaired my meniscus. Just recently I went to the dr cause my need didnt feel right. I did an MRI and she found I very tiny tear in my meniscus which she said was not repairable. So they went in and just cleaned it out. She also told me that my cartalidge was wearing down. Now my main goal is to avoid knee reaplacement, which she claims I will need if I continue in this path. I was wondering if anyone has gone through this and if there was any postive advise as to help me get my knee in the best possible shape?
Any ideas on my healing time for a re-attached lateral meniscus and torn ACL?.? I had surgery last Friday for a lateral meniscus which was completely detached and was reattached. I also have a torn ACL ligament which was not dealt with on this surgery. Prior to the surgery, my knee was very swolen and dislocated to the left. I am currently in a full splint and will probably need that for awhile? Any suggestions or has anyone gone through this? The knee is still unstable and I will probably need future surgery for the ACL ligament via ACL reconstruction.
In 2000, I blew my right knee ACL. Dr. said I don't have one anymore. What happened to the "pieces"? I haven't had any surgery (yet), but I'm having problems with grinding pain. If you've had this injury please share info.
How do I reduce the swelling in my surgically repaired knee? Over 10 years ago, I had ACL reconstructive surgery on my right knee. Over the years, my knee has started hurting and swelling up a lot after playing basketball. It doesn't hurt or swell while I'm playing, but hours later, I can barely walk as the knee becomes swollen and painful that I can't even bend it 90 degrees. My left knee is fine and never had pain or swelling. I am about 50 pounds overweight so would losing this weight help stop the swelling? Meanwhile... are there medication that will stop the pain and swelling from occuring? I guess I can take up less impact sports like swimming and cycling but they are too boring and I know I'll stop doing them.
Is it normal to have shin pain 1 1/2 yrs after ACL reconstruction surgery? I feel the pain when I bend my knee under me. Also, when I lay in bed and turn using the leg or when I let my foot hang at the ankle or accidentally hit anything with my foot.
ive bought many sports knee braces for my torn acl, how can i get my game back i also had therapy? need help? i torn my acl a year ago, i didnt have surgery but i had therapy but i cant run the way i used to what can i do to get my game back or is there another solution, need help
Is my knee infected and what should I do about it? I had ACL surgery and then the doctor did another surgery to remove scar tissue with a scope. I broke open one of the incisions and it developed an infection. I was hospitalized and given antibiotics through an IV. I am allergic to pennicillian so I was given alternitive antibiotics and the doctors found out that I was allergic to most if not all of the other antibiotics. I had surgery to clean up the infection and released. My knee is swollen, red and is emitted a brown fluid that smells. I am having a burning sensation under my knee cap and around the wound. Is it infected again? If it is infected my doctor wants to open it up and leave it open to heal from the inside out. Is this a good idea? What should I do?
