If your cartillage is repaired in arthoscopic knee surgery, shouldn't the doctor give you crutches? My grandma is known for medically crying wolf. Today, she had arthoscopic knee surgery. For weeks, she's been complaining about knee pain and limping in this crazy exagerrated manor. She was unable to have an MRI for a diagnosis, so they scheduled the surgery. Her boyfriend took her to the surgery, so we couldn't talk to the doctor afterward. Now, she's telling everyone that the doctor had to repair her cartillage during the surgery. But, she's walking fairly normally and was not given crutches or anything even for today. (She is in her 70s). What are the chances that this is legitimate? I don't want to ignore her if it's real, but I'm also tired of the games and don't want to encourage these lies... any insight?
I have a question about my arthoscopic knee surgery.? I had the surgery two weeks ago and they gave me my report today and I want to know what this really means because the doctor just read the paper to explain it. I do understand what the loose body is though. Findings: 1. Loose body 2x1cm 2. An area of grade 4 chondromalacia 2 x 1 over the superomedial portion of the medial femoral condyle. 3. Grade 2-3 chondromalacia of the entire inferior aspect of the medial facet of the patella. 4. Grade 1-2 chondromalacia of the weightbearing surface of the medial femoral condyle. 5. The medial compartment showed no meniscal tears. 6. The notch contents showed that the ACL fibers were intact. 7. The lateral compartment of the knee showed there was no chondromalacia. No evidence of meniscal tears. Operations Performed: 1. Arthroscopic removal of loose body, right knee. 2. Arthoscopic chondroplasty of the patella. 3. Arthroscopic microfracture of the medial femoral condyle, medial compartment of the knee. Plan: The patient will begin immediate rehab. I will allow him weight bearing while he is in a brace from 20-60 degrees range of motion. Again, I will follow this patient through his postoperative course. His ACL fibers appeared a little bit loose to me on exam. His examination under anesthesia did not show a pivot shift and it did show relatively poor endpoint on the Lachman. ............................. So, what do you think? I am in a job that involves daily physical training such as running and hauling heavy things, and I want to know if the above information will affect me in the future or will it heal fine.

who has had or performs arthoscopic knee surgery? I will be getting surgery on my knee in a week because i tore my meniscus. i have been getting conflicting reports on my recovery time. one of the docs said a month or so, another doc said 6-8 weeks. the first doc said i will be walking out of the hospital, the second doc said that i might have to use crutches for a few weeks with my leg in a brace bent or straight. the second doc also said the first scenario was possible, and if so i would go immediately to physical therapy. i'm fifteen and i really want to recover so i can play sports. i dont care how tough physical therapy may be. what scenario do you think is most likely? response to somebody's answer: i have researched it a lot, i'm also taking a class on sports injuries. thanks for the help!
knee workouts for 6 months after surgery? I've had arthoscopic knee surgery in each knee, and the one knee is still kind of messed up. They cleaned it out, but the damage is done. There is a lot of permanent cartilage damage in it (im only 21!). I've been finally able to get on the elliptical, but what are some good exercises to strenghthen my muscles around the knee? I am able to do moderate weight.

Knee & shin pain? Had arthoscopic knee surgery 10 weeks ago. Currently have pain in the back of my knee and down my shin. Wakes me up in the middle of the night. Doctor says I have severe arthritis on the outer side of my knee but the inner side is okay. I am on pain meds for chronic pain due to MS. Take Opana ER 20mg every 12 hrs and Opana 5 mg twice a day for breakthrough pain. For the arthritis I take Naprelan 375mg (2) at bedtime. Very stiff when I get up. Knee locks up. Can't walk normal because of the pain. Very slow too. The surgery was to take care of torn menicus. Thought I should be better by now. Actually I feel worse. Suggest x-rays or MRI? Anyone experience this kind of pain? Any thoughts of what it could be?
Post-Op knee brace and skin issues?? i had arthoscopic knee surgery 3 weeks ago. since then, ive been confined to a knee brace that is made of two thick foam pads (one on lower leg, other on thigh) w/ metal rods and hinges on the sides and held on w/ velcro straps. i cant take it apart to wash it, so is there any way i can get it clean? i wear the thing 24/7, so it gets nasty fast. also, since i wear it all the time, and can take it off only for a short time, my skin has gotten really dry and is flaking off. i cant shower w/ the brace ( i still DO shower tho, ive devised a way) so i can only wipe my leg down. what can i use as a good moisturizer for my skin that doesnt have a greasy residue. id like to kno, cause the brace is sticking around for a long time. i had a lateral release, which means they put my kneecap back in place. any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Is it propper procedure for an knee surgeon to throw away your arthoscopic pictures? I am 21 years old and just had knee surgery for OCD in my knee. After the proper rehab and time has gone by my I am in even worse pain. I went back to my Dr. and he said he wants to do the surgery again, I told him I want to go for a second opinion. He would not release the arthocopic pictures to me, when t for the 2nd opinion the new Dr. said he must see them. I called the original Dr. every day for the past month with no response back. I went to the hospital the surgery was done at and they don't even show any record of me having surgery. Now that I finnaly have to spoken to some one at the original Dr. they tell me they don't keep the arthocopic pics they only have before and after xrays. Is this right, How could they dispose of something that I paid for? Thanks

Knee locking? I recently had an arthoscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus on the left side of my right knee. Currently I've been experiencing knee locking during flexion...which is when I tried to bend the knee. The locking sensation is behind the knee on the right side. It doesn't hurt when touched, but it does have minor pain. Can anyone help to answer if it is something serious or just a matter of stretching it daily and hopefully it will go away with time? It has been 4 months since my surgery. Thanks.
Fluid bubbles and pressure in my knee after Arthoscopy? I had an arthoscopic surgery about 6 weeks ago. Part of my femar died and broke off (about an inch in diameter) and this tore up part of my miniscus so the surgery was to remove the bone and miniscus pieces. Right now I am back to running and working out but i continuously get these bubbles of fluid or some sort of pressure bubbles in my knee. They are not large at all, about the size of a thumbnail, but they are painful. They do not last long and i can actually move them around with my fingers until the pain goes away but it is never permanant. Any suggestions? should i be concerned?
I need help to diagnose what I am experiencing (SEROUS ANSWERS ONLY)? Symptoms: - severe swelling in both knees - severe stiffness and lack of mobility in right wrist - right side of jaw is being affected - right shoulder SOMETIMES is tender Now I know I'll get a lot of 'go to your doctor" I have and they can't find ANYTHING wrong. They've drawn fluid from the knees and it only shows that it's inflammed! I notice that these symptoms occur 4 to 6 months after I've had a baby. Had arthoscopic surgery done and the knees are 'perfect'. My doctors wrote it off as Rheumatoid Arthritis, however NONE of the medication I've been given worked for pain or swelling, the only thing that seemed to work was to drain fluid and give me a cortisone shot. I DON"T LIKE THAT. Now I've been taking 2 Motrins and 2 Alevees and they help with my mobility and pain considerably. don't want to be on drugs all the time. If anyone can honestly help PLEASE DO. Thanks for any advice that is given.
IS THIS A MEDICAL MALPRACTICE LAWSUIT? Ok im a 49yr old female and fell in 10/07 roughly around that period i was told that i needed arthoscopic surgery had that done. Had a Total Knee replacement in 7/08 went to rehab for two weeks still couldnt get knee straight and was in pain. Had Knee manipulation done as well as clear scar tissue 9/08 and just had another arthoscopic to clear scar tissue again. Now i am in extreme pain and kept going back to the doctors who performed the surgery there is hole in my leg from the last surgery and asked the doctor why and he said portal that is used for the arthoscopy healed over the portal. It is still bleeding in that area, 3 weeks after the last arthoscopic surgery. Kept going back to the doctors that did the first 4 surgerys and they said it looked better that i need to be aggressive with my Physical Therapy. In the past few day i have been in pain more than ever. Went to a new doctor for a second opinion and he said it is probably infected and there is a chance it might need to be amputated now i feel cheated and wondering is this i malpractice suit and if so how much? I care thats why i am asking and am seeking an opinion of someone in this field b4 i waste time at a lawyer

Can you fuction on OxyContin? I have had two knee surgeries in 2 months for PVNS (one open posterior tumor removal and synevectomy and one anterior arthoscopic synevectomy) and have been on a handful of different pain meds for my condition for the past 4 months. I was on oxycodone 5-500mg after my first surgery and that has been the strongest so far. After this 2nd surgery they put me on Vicodin which isnt working at all to manage the pain and they put me on OxyContin 10 mg (one every 12 hours) today. Can I function on this? I mean; do people work and all on this b/c they have me on it for at least a month to see if it helps relieve the pain. It is making me really tired and goofy today but I'm thinking that is normal just b/c its the first day of it. I just want to get back to my normal daily life and not have pain rule every aspect of my life! Thanks! I"m not worried at all about getting addicted to the pain meds. I have never been addicted to ANYTHING. I hate taking pain meds; I would never want to take them recreationally. I just wanted to know if I can work while I take them.
