Foot surgery? Not just about 8 hours ago i lost control of my motorcycle and had a crash. I have broken 3 or 4 metatarsal bones in my left foot and they say i may need surgery. I have never had surgery before so to be blunt - I AM FREAKING BRICKING IT!!!! are there any alternatives to foot surgery? I have slight bunions but The real pain is caused by my metatarsal tilting outward and my big toe tilts inward which causes the bunion to protrude. Burning Sensation When Touching My Foot After Surgery? I went in for outpatient surgery a few weeks ago on my left foot. After the surgery about 1/3 of the top of that foot was numb. A part of it still is, but the other part that was numb now has a strong burning sensation whenever anything touches it. Docs told my mom it be a miracle if I was able to walk correctly. Seeing is believing. if i get a tattoo on my foot will a bunion surgery ruined it? Well I really want a tat on my left foot but I'm a bit hesitant because I have a bunion. I need to have foot surgery, but with muliple procedures. What's recovery time and what am I dealing with? I have to have surgery on my right foot. Derotating my little toe, cutting out a ganglion cyst on top of foot, a small bunion off the little toe side (what the podiatrist called a bunionette), a planter's wart and a corn removed from the baby toe, a rhuematoid nodule cut out from the middle toe and a corn cut out from the 4th toe.. The wart and corn is from pressure from the little toe curving under 4th toe. Am I kidding myself to gave a goal to be back to normal by the 6th week after? How bad will the pain be? Or should I go with just a few procedures? I was prepared to have surgery on the derotation of the baby toe, but the rest is too overwhelming. I am scared to death and have 2 kids......I don't feel that I have time to be laid up for 2 months and not be able to walk. Any help, information, past experiences, opinions would be helpful. I do have rheumatoid arthritis and have been treating it for 5 years now.

What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in foot & ankle surgery? My feet hurt all the time, especially below the ankles towards the side. What doctor should I see for that? I saw two advertisements..one from a podiatrist and one from a orthopedic surgeon. Who will know more and who will be able to better help my aching feet. ( I think i have flat feet too)
reconstructive foot surgery... how long before I am in a walking cast? Anyone out there have reconstructive foot surgery? I did... 2 tendons repaired, a wedge of bone taken out to allign my foot, released the tendon on the bottom of my foot and they put a screw through my heal. I am curious how long I have to wait until I am out of the regular cast and into a walking cast... yes, I know I should ask my doctor... but I am curious about how long others had to wait to make the move from regular cast to walking cast... foot surgery, feet sweeling & have diabetes type II? I just had foot surgery 5 days ago and my left foot is really swollen. I went for a follow up after surgery and my foot wasn't this swollen. I am kind of worried since I am a diabetic. Was wondering if there is anything else I can do besides keeping my feet up and using ice on and off during the day.
Ideas for some low-impact very effective exercises for someone who has had extensive foot surgery? My fiance's heel was shattered about 2 years ago in an accident. He walks with a limp and often has minor achy pain in his foot. The doctor says he has post traumatic arthritis, meaning he has no cartilege and bone is grinding on bone, causing the pain. He walks with a limp and is fine except he can't run or jump. Does anyone have ideas for low-impact exercises? I know he needs physical therapy, but we cant afford that seeing as how we have about 100k in medical bills... please help! I dont want him to use this as an excuse to let himself go.

Surgery foot calluses? I have SEVERE calluses on my feet and am going to see a podiatrist this week(again). I want to know if anyone has had surgery to remove foot calluses and if so, how was the surgery? Was it worth it? Did they come back? Its been a month since the surgery and I am having electrical sensations around the wound which I was told was my nerve endings healing. But I am concerned about the pain I have everytime I walk. The pain feels as if the bone needs to crack. Also I have a lump that is about 4 times teh size of the original lump I had pre-surgery. I went to the Dr last week and he took an x-ray and everything looked ok. Can anyone please help explain my pain and the lump around the incision???

Foot surgery - "joint tidy-up."? Has anyone had foot surgery, in particular what's known as a "joint tidy-up?" I had the end of my second metatarsal drilled off 4 weeks ago. (It was bulky, calcified & grinding against the toe joint.) They said I had to take it easy for 6-8 weeks, but other than that have given me an appointment for 6 months time & sent me on my merry way. If you had this surgery, how long was it before you could walk properly, go to the gym, bend the foot & go up on your tip toes for example? How do I know if foot surgery is the right thing for me to do? 7 yrs ago a guy (who I didnt even know) got angry bcz I didnt say "hello" to him when he rode alongside me on his bike while I was walking. He waited till I walked a few feet, ran over my foot with his bike, then took off. I tripped, almost fell, my foot swelled & I was crying, that really hurt. After a day or 2 my foot was fine. 7 yrs later it bothers me to where even in the flattest & padded shoe it still hurts. Doctors said its trauma arthritis (caused by injury) and the joint area is worn out & suggested options but I still experience pain in that area of my foot. They suggested surgery to replace that joint area with a "surgical pin" and a 6month to a year healing time but I'm afraid I'll be in worst shape if I allow a doctor to perform surgery. Doctors make mistakes too. But what else can I do about my foot? Should I just have the surgery & trust that it'll be ok? Because I'm starting to think surgery will be my best option to repair the damaged area. But I'm scared.

Ever have foot surgery? I have a fibroma in my foot, just below my arch and above my heel. I've been in orthotics for a year now, had cortisone treatments and therapy. To walk is so painful now every day, and it's affecting my whole life. Just recently I went back to my foot doc and when I took my sock off we noticed red/purple discoloration in the area exactly where my fibroma is. He's pretty sure it ruptured and is sending me in for an ultrasound. He's suggesting surgery to remove it. Has anybody had this done? Not surgery to release plantar faciatis, that's something different. He says the recovery time for what I need to have done is longer, so I'm wondering how long?

Should I consider foot surgery now? I'm 22 and I have bunions on both feet. They are very painful but I refuse to wear ugly orthopedic shoes (I have a high heel obsession - unfortunately for someone with foot problems). At this point of my life, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to consider surgery. Cost of cosmetic foot surgery? About how much would cosmetic foot surgery cost? Not on all toes, but just on one toe. To be more detailed, it's the big toe. Hoe much would it cost to get corrective surgery on the big toe? P.S. insurance doesn't cover cosmetic surgery.

Excercise after foot surgery? I just had foot surgery 4 days ago. I won't have the stitches out for another 2 weeks! Any suggestions on workouts I can get in during this time. I need to keep working out!!! Running is going to obviously be an issue. (Ok, so "uncool" alert: I had a bunion removed! Flexing my toes is an issue right now. Besides, if one isn't careful, a second surgery may be needed years down the road.)
After foot surgery, stitch left in? I had foot surgery 4.5 weeks ago and the stitches were taken out 2.5 weeks ago. Tonight, now that it is healing and the scabs are begining to flake off, I noticed a bit of a stitch sticking out. Thinking it was a "bit" left in, I got some tweezers and gently pulled on it. It must be still knotted because it stung a little and then a bit of blood seeped out. I used a pair of fingernail clippers and tried to "get it", but It's pretty deep I think. My question, and experience with this before? I'll call the Dr. on Tues, but what will he do? Cut it out? Yowch! Stitches are not self-dissolving type. Dr. already took 5 others out. It looked like he took this one out, but must have missed the knot and cut just the thread.
acupuncture treatment after Plantarfaiitis foot surgery? Husband had plantarfaiitis foot surgery 5 weeks ago - still in as much pain now as prior to surgery. Thought about acupuncture. Have you heard of any success with acupuncture after this type of surgery? Thanks Karen

Just had left foot surgery for Hallux Valgus (shaved off bunion) 6 weeks ago ; am walking fine; the scars are healing nicely. my questions is : i've noticed some hardness underneath the both scars (i guess it's tissues) ~ will this go away/soften? Need Advice on Husbands foot surgery? HELP! Husband hurt his foot on a new job middle of 2007. He had to go through surgery. Because of this injury he had to go to light duty PT. After they made him come back earlier than he was ordered to, they laid him off. Its been SO long, and his foot is still in alot of pain, and has a hard time walking. Does ANYONE have home remedies so I can help him cope? Or advice on what to do. Hes been in Physical therapy and all that, its not getting better...HELP
I had minor foot surgery on monday and am unable to walk for the next few days. Am I going to gain weight? I have been on a strict diet and exercise regime for the past 4 months and have lost about 25 pounds. I try to limit myself to 1200 calories a day and usually exercise for atleast 1 hour 6 days a week. However, with my recent foot surgery I am unable to do anything besides sit around all day and its killing me! I want to get up and move and am terrified that I am going to gain weight from a lack of exercise. I'm still sticking to my 1200 calorie a day diet, so do you think i will gain weight from sitting around for the next week (I am 18 years old and weigh 124 lbs). Also, are there any exercises I can do sitting down involving just my upper body, I enjoy strength training but just arent sure how many reps and sets to do! Thanx!!
Is an Orthopedic surgeon better than a podiatrist at preforming foot surgery? I'm getting ready to have surgery on my foot. The orthopedic surgeon said that my problem was from wearing too small of shoes. I went to the shoes store and had my feet fitted...guess what? I'm wearing the RIGHT size. So, went to a podiatrist and he said, no.. I have 3 hammertoes and abunion and a tailor's bunion. So, do you think that the podiatrist just wants to do surgery? Or that the orthopedic guy didn't know what he was talking about? Which is better at handling feet?

What exercises can I do for a sore behind/legs because I had foot surgery and am not allowed to stand.? I had achilles surgery and my foot is cast at 30 degrees, I am not allowed to put any pressure on my foot, I can kneel, and put my foor up. After 2 weeks, it is becoming very annoying and sore to sit or lie or anything. My lower back/ backside/ upper legs are very sore. I stil have 5 weeeks to go!!! Help!! What exercies can I do to help? What are some fun things i can do while i recover from my reconstructive foot surgery? I am on my third reconstructive foot surgery and i am completely confined to my bed with a laptop, cable tv, and a yorkie. he he i have ppl who can get things for me and i have to be laying down with my foot elevated for 2 weeks. Two weeks ago I had surgery on my big toe to repair a fracture. Unfortunately, at the end of the four-week recovery, I'm going to be in Brazil. I'm looking for an orthopaedic surgeon in Brazil (near Macaé, RÃo de Janiero) who can remove the two pins, which protrude from my toe. This is what my doctor recommended if I weren't able to be in his office at the end of the recovery period. An alternative to finding a local orthopaedic surgeon is simply to remove the pins myself. It seems as though all that's needed is a pair of pliers and some sterile gauze and tape. I'm leaning toward the latter, as it seems like a very simple procedure. Just make sure to keep it super clean and protected. Doctors also tell you to return to their office so they can remove a few stitches.
I went thru plastic surgery on my right foot. After surgery leg is still swollen. how long it'll take to cure. Because of an accident, i had to undergone plastic surgery 2 months ago. Have you or anyone you know has (foot) tendon surgery? I was just wondering what I can expect. On 9-7 I'm having 2 on each foot, front & back tendons cut to release the tight strain on my two toes. It's causing them to rub and jam into eachother. Talk about pain. But as you would assume I'm scared. Sems like this should be a hospital stay surgery but nope! :(
Foot Surgery - Corn Removal? I spent some time in Iraq when I served in the Air Force and from wearing those combat boots, I've developed corns on a five of my toes, on just one of my feet, the skin gets really thick and hard quickly no matter how often I get a pedicure. I thought it was athletes foot from taking showers in public stalls, but I've tried every over the counter treatment possible, nothing has worked yet. I want to have the procedures necessary to correct these problems before the summertime so that I can freely wear open toe sandals not to mention, I believe my foot problems are causing me some health problems, is that possible? I know that the corn removal procedure is relatively quick and simple, but is it true that they can still grow back after being removed? What would be the point of removing them then? And if they don't grow back, once they are removed how long does it take for your skin to look normal again, colorwise and such, in that area?
Major foot surgery, havent gotten appetite back.? the past week I have had a really bad sweet tooth. I had major ankle surgery 2 weeks ago, it was a four hour surgery and then I had to have a cathiter put in because I wasnt peeing. So I am on crutches for the next 11 weeks and I havnt really gotten my apitite back, but this sweet tooth is killing me. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem after a major surgery, and if anyone has any good ideas for a healthy sweet tooth snack? I know its kinda a goofy question but if anyone has any good ideas I would love it!!!
Should I get foot surgery? I have heel spurs in my feet and they cause me tremendous pain and my feet swell sometimes. I can't be on them very long w/o them hurting. I went to my foot doctor a while back. He prescribed anti-inflammatory pills and casted my feet for ortodics to put in my shoes to wear. It doesn't seem to make a difference.

Considering surgery on my flat foot? My left foot is completely flat and my right foot has a slight arch. I have problems standing for long periods of time because of immense pain in the bottom of my foot. It even causes me to limp slightly. Last week I had hammer toe surgery on both feet. Right foot is hot and swollen is this normal? My doctor told me after five days I would be able to go back to work. I am now in my second week and have no ideal when I will go back. He said each person is different. First, I ride the subway to work and walk four blocks each way. I have what I call snow boots to walk in. My daughters said I couldn't go to work because I have to drive to the subway and of course insurance won't pay. I have been in pain since the surgery. I went in today to see how I was doing and I told him my foot was hot and still hurt. He took some blood from my arm and from my foot and gave me stronger pain medicine and levaquin 500 mg. I go back Thursday to see how I am doing. Also I am to keep my foot raised and heat on it and move as liitle as possible. I want to know if this is normal and or what should I be doing?

I'm having conscious sedation for foot surgery. Will I hear the power tools or feel presssure on my foot? I know I will be sedated, but still am very nervous. Also, will this cause nausea? I had the same procedure with general anesthesia and got very sick - even though they tried to take precautions to avoid it by altering medications used. Thanks.

has anyone had ankle surgery and not been able to move their toes when foot is down? it is 2 weeks after surgery and when my foot is elevated i can move my toes and they are fine but when i put my foot down it swells and my toes turn purple and i can't really move them much. Is this normal???
Has anyone gotten blod clot from a foot surgery? I am upset that my podiatrist did not give me a blood thinner to prevent the blood clot from happening.
