Is lap-band surgery a good option for weight loss? For a few years I`ve been overweight and I can`t lose the extra weight. I`m 5 ft 3 in and 176 lb. I should lose about 40-44 lb. I`ve tried many diets I found in magazines but the results were insignificant. I heard about the lap band procedure and how it works but is weight loss certain after surgery? Are there other good options out there? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

I have talked to my dr about my weight gain for years and all she says is diet and exercise and as I been seeing her i have crept on another 30 lbs I am fat as ever now and I have tried all diets and now my knees are in pain. She refuses to even entertain the idea of the Weight loss surgery. I am in portland oregon and on I am on the providence personal option. I need a new dr or something. Because I will be 300lbs before long and my dr. will still just say diet and exercise. Hell if it was that easy I'd been done already!! this has been going on three years! I HAVE CUT out all sugar; deep friend foods> she took a thyroid test and it was normal. My family has all been obese I am fight against all odds here and its been very depressing. any serious ideas ? Please don't beat your drum about diet and exercise and furits and veggies I heard it all and tried it all. How do I get to the steps to have the surgery?
Should weight loss surgery be the only option? I personally don't think so and here is my blog about it if you want to read my thoughts. http://medstudcindy.blogspot.com/2007/02/surgery-is-becoming-only-escapre.html
Can my friend's mom get bariatric surgery under a local anesthetic? My friend's mom is morbidly obese and she needs a surgery to save her life. The problem is that she cannot go under a general anesthesia because the last time she did, her heart stopped. So my question is what weight loss surgery options are available to her and can she go under a local anesthesia for any of these procedures? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Can anyone help me?
Have you considered Gastric Bypass Surgery for weight loss? Here's some tips!? Gastric bypass: Is this weight-loss surgery for you? Are you a candidate for gastric bypass surgery? Find out what to expect and the benefits and risks involved. It's always best to lose weight through a healthy diet and regular physical activity. But if you're among those who have tried and can't lose the excess weight that's causing your health problems, weight-loss (bariatric) surgery may be an option. Gastric bypass, which changes the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest, is the favored bariatric surgery in the United States. Most surgeons prefer this procedure because it's safer and has fewer complications than other available weight-loss surgeries. It can provide long-term, consistent weight loss if accompanied with ongoing behavior changes. Gastric bypass isn't for everyone with obesity, however. It's a major procedure that poses significant risks and side effects and requires permanent changes in your lifestyle. Who is gastric bypass surgery for? Generally, gastric bypass surgery is reserved for people who are unable to achieve or maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise, are severely overweight, and who have health problems as a result. Gastric bypass may be considered if: ·Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity). ·Your BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and you have a serious weight-related health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Gastric bypass surgery doesn't replace the need for following a healthy diet and regular physical activity program. In fact, the success of the surgery depends in part on your commitment to following the guidelines given to you about diet and exercise. As you consider weight-loss surgery, make sure that you make every effort to exercise, change your eating habits and adjust any other lifestyle factors that have contributed to your excess weight http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass/HQ01465 http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass-diet/WT00007 http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass-surgery/AN01378 I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I’m 180 and holding, after 1 year and 7 months. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I’m down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18. Most people struggle with paying for the surgery. Go to this site, it is a great support system for you, because it’s only people who have had gastric bypass. Every insurance program has been rated, and you’ll get tips on how to deal with your insurance company, as well as, surgery tips, food tips, and just support. http://www.obesityhelp.com/ There is a very good web site by a guy named Basil White. He’s a govt. worker and a comedian. He walks you through everything. Very interesting. He had the surgery and did well. http://www.basilwhite.com/gastric/ Some other helpful links… http://dir.yahoo.com/Health/Diseases_and_Conditions/Obesity/Gastric_Bypass_Surgery/ http://www.stapleclub.com/general_info.htm http://www.locateadoc.com/articles.cfm/1454/1337 http://www.dhmc.org/webpage.cfm?site_id=2&org_id=28&morg_id=0&sec_id=0&gsec_id=35507&item_id=35508 http://www.mygastricbypass.com/ http://www.gwdocs.com/health/eHA-eHA_Content_C-Generic_Content_Page_Template_1131123706877.html Good luck with your surgery and new life! What do you think?
Has anyone deducted Weight Loss Surgery on taxes? If you finance the surgery through a bank, can you still get the tax deduction? And how do you do it? Do I save receipts, and get an accountant? I have no insurance and my life depends on this surgery, and with the government allowing WLS as a tax deduction over 7.5% of annual income, it seems like my only feasible option. Any insight into this is appreciated.
Weight loss, what are some non invasive "Surgery" type options? Such as a stomach band...? Looking to lose lots of weight, and I think something like a stomach stapeling is what im shooting for, except i dont want something totally permanent. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
How can i tighten loose skin after weight loss without surgery? I've lost 70 pounds over the last year and a half and with bathing suit season coming up (i swore to myself i would wear an actual bathing suit this year! and not a lot of bathing coverups!) i have a lot of loose skin around my middle, upper inner thighs and even my breasts are far from perky. i work out 6 days a week (i know exercise is supposed to help) but i'm not seeing a difference. any ideas? i'm willing to try most anything but surgery is not an option.
If I get a group insurance plan and add on weight loss surgery? as an option does anyone know how much extra it is? I own my own business and I want to get a group insurance plan. How much extra is it to add on other benefits such as wls? I talked to one of my students that works for blue cross blue shield and she said you can pick different benefits if you want to add on things. She just didn't know how much extra it would be.
For people who have had weight loss surgery or who have someone close to them that has (spouse/other).? My fiancé's doctor recently brought up weight loss surgery to him. He is more then 100lbs overweight. The doctor told him that he has a metabolism like a multiple stomached mammal, another words it's extremely abnormally slow. He goes to the gym 3-5times a week each and every week. He's been on various special diets (doctor recommended for some). He's tried over the counter and prescribed weight loss/metabolism enhancers. And he's starting to get 'red' flags where his health is concerned. He's been under dr's supervision and the dr feels like they've tried just about all of the possibilities (only one other thing to try in his opinion) and is preparing my fiancé for the strong possibility of weight loss surgery. My fiancé has asked my opinion. And I'm trying to become as educated as possible about it. I've read about gastric bypass and I'm very weary of it. It's important to me that he lives a long healthy life, and with his current red flags that would be just about impossible. But the risks worry me greatly. And I just wanted to talk to other people who have experienced the surgery or how have had a person close to them have the surgery. My Questions: 1) Aside from Gastric Bypass and Lap Band Surgery, What could possibly be his other options? 2) How will his diet change? 3) If you've had the surgery, do you regret it? 4) If your spouse or someone else close to you, preferably someone who lives with you, has had the surgery, how did it affect you? 5) If your spouse or someone close to you had the surgery, how have you noticed it affected them (aside from the obvious weight loss)? 6) Is there anything else that can naturally enhance his metabolism? If you've got anything else to add aside from my questions please do. Thank you so very much for answering.
Weight loss surgery in Alberta, Canada? I am looking for a really cheap place, and what are all of my options? Would health insurance cover bariatric surgery or any other surgeries? I also heard about going to India... I would like to get rid of my stomach fat, thigh fat, etc. Anyone who says diet and exercise, will not be helping at all, you have no idea what my condition is like. I am not overweight though...
Does anyone know a good website that compares weight loss procedures? I have heard of so many different weight loss surgeries, some that are more invasive and serious than others, and some that are more effective. Does anyone know a good site to compare options?
If you have had weight loss surgery, can you join a slimming club? My Mum had weight loss surgery - her stomach stapled. And she is not doing very well atall. She had the surgery in may last year and has only lost a stone. She should have lost alot more then that as she is quiet a big lady - but not huge. I am worried that theonly option for her to slim down has failed, and yes it is her fault because she still eats sh!t and cant stop herself. She had the surgery in Belgium as she could not afford it over here £4,500 over there and £8,000 here! She is only meant to be able to eat a tiny bit of food every so many hours- but she manages to eat much more then that but she is most of the time sick! I think the biggest reason is because her body has had the change but her mind has not (over here you get counciling etc)whereas is Belgium its just the op nothing else. She is thinking of joining a slimming club (which she did before the op unsuccesfully). I think she needs some sort of counciling to help her mind go off bad foods, What do you guys think? Than

Secondary and Supplemental Health Insurance? I am covered on my husband's health insurance, but I'd like to get my own coverage. The policy with my husband's company won't be available to drop until Jan 2010, I recently began researching weight loss surgery options but and realized that our insurance excludes all forms of it. I want to know if I can still buy insurance for myself and pay a higher premium so that I am covered by the policy that fits my needs best. Also, will supplemental insurance be worth purchasing? Thanks Sophia
Post weight loss loose skin. What are my options? I am seventeen years old. Through diet and exercise changes I have lost about 110 lbs of weight. Now because of so I have loose, flabbish skin around my inner thighs, underarms, butt, stomach, and chest. I need to know what my options are to get rid of this. I've heard people say build muscle, but I would have to become HUGE to fill it in. I doubt any lotions and creams could do anything. From what i've read it seems surgery is the only real option out there. But that is a problem because I really don't like to impose on people and don't know if I have the strength to ask my parents for surgery because I know it would cost a lot. I don't really know what to do. This makes all my efforts seem fruitless. It's killing my confidence, I hate my body after all this work and effort even and it's very depressing. Any advice would be great. Also, about how much money are we lookin at for surgery to remove skin on inner thighs, butt, stomach, chest, and underarms?
do you think it's ok for a teenager to consider getting liposuction? well, i'm fourteen and i'm not happy with the way i look at all. i've been trying to lose weight, but nothing seems to work for me. i eat healthy and i exercise daily. i just don't know what's wrong. and the worst part about it is, i've been thinking about weight loss surgery as my only option. but i know it's too risky. and i sure know my parents wouldn't even care. please help me. your advice would be so appreciated.
What kind of doctor should I see? I'm looking to talk to a doctor about weight loss options. Meal plans, medicines, etc. Not surgery.
Is it too soon to consider bypass surgery? I'm seventeen years old - will be turning eighteen in December - and I've been overweight for several years now; I've made attempts at dieting, exercising, and have tried using Green Tea as a means of diet pills. I'm still a minor so I need to depend on my mom for diet pills - she seems reluctant to buy me anything really strong. Hence the reason why I only have used Green Tea. Before I try any form of surgery, I intend on trying a stronger diet pill - I don't see myself getting this surgery done until after I graduate high school. I have briefly spoke with my doctor about bypass - which seems to be my best option surgery wise - however I haven't sat down with a doctor about the procedure and the costs of it. I'm roughly 5'8" and I weight about 310 pounds - I've been around this weight for a while now. I can't seem to lose a lot of weight, but I can't seem to stick with a diet and exercise plan for a long period of time. I couldn't tell you why I'd feel that I'd be more enthusiastic if I were thinner, but I simply get too self conscious about my looks to work out. Now, having described my situation, I'd like to know how I should go about finding out more about my options and how much I should expect to be charged for a surgery like this. - I live near Madison, Wisconsin (United States) - I have had blood work done; no thyroid problem, my blood sugar level is pretty high, and my blood cholesterol is high - I haven't gone through any other obesity-related tests - My high weight level makes my periods less frequent, I'll get my period once every 2-4 months - My body mass index score is 47, so I'm in range for the surgery without an underlining issue What should I do at this point? Would you say it's too soon to turn to surgery for the weight loss I desire? I apologize for having such a long description.
What is the easiest colonoscopy prep to tolerate? I'm a lapband patient (weight-loss surgery,) and I can't drink or eat much of anything in quantity. There is no way that I could ever drink a gallon of liquid, or take a bunch of pills (the band prevents swallowing of large pills, they get stuck.) What other options do I have?
I'm almost 16 and I want lighter and firmer breasts. but im unable to get a reduction. any advice?? im 5'3'' I weigh 103lbs, and my cup size is 34D. I have many problems with the size of my chest..It's almost impossible for me to find well fitting bras and shirts. I'm constantly recieving unwanted attention from boys and men. I have tremendous amount of back and neck pain as well as bad posture. I have little divets in my shoulders from bras, i have stretch marks, and my boobs sag already! I visited a plastic surgeon a while back, and he said i was a good candidate for the surgery..But our insurance wouldnt allow it..i was too young. I only had to wait 3 years to get the surgery but i didnt give up. I did research and the only other options i found were to lose weight. or a herbal pill called Alexia. my large breasts are genetic, and im not exactley overweight, so weight loss wasnt an option. And i'm skeptical about Alexia because i had never heard of breast reduction through a pill. Does anyone know anything about Alexia, is it legit? other advice and help is greatly appreciated =]
How can I get smaller breasts without surgery? please read the details? I would like to have smaller breasts because they are highly uncomfortable. Is weight loss an option? And please don't tell me something like"you should be happy with what you have because others wish they were in your place".Thank you. note to veaj: gee, thanks, but I told you that answers like "just be thankful with what you have" are of no help for me...thanks anyway
Surgery or Conservative Treatment for my Cat? My 3 year old cat has something called "Left Stifle Injury," or more to the point, "Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture." Has anybody had a cat with the same injury? If you have, did you do the surgery, and if so, what was the outcome and how is your cat walking today. Has anyone gone the other route and done the "Conservative Treatment" instead of the surgery. If you are not sure, here is a description: Conservative treatment usually entails rest and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medication for 6-8 weeks. Once the majority of pain and inflammation is resolved, then a conservative regime of exercise and weight loss (if necessary) should be initiated. Conservative therapy of CCL is best tolerated in patients weighing less than 15 kg. Results are more unpredictable in the larger animals. Given enough time, the lameness and pain often resolves within small patients managed conservatively. These animals appear to function normally on the injured leg; however, instability from the CCL injury persists and secondary degenerative joint disease inevitably develops. I am strapped for cash and the surgery is going to cost upwards of $2500.00. I have applied to Care Credit in order to apply for financial aid at IMOM.com. Still need to see if my vet will be on board with that. I am trying to exhaust all my options because Albert wants to live, and I don't want to give him up. Any ideas, and if you can shed some light on the Conservative Treatment, I will remain hopeful that Albert will get the best treatment possible. Thank you, Jessica for your very helpful feedback. Tammy, you are a dear, and I am touched. I will pass your healing balm along to Albert.

Anyone have Lap Band Surgery? I am working with my doctor to find the right solution for weight loss...and he told me that gastric bypass is one of my options. I'm thinking of having the lap band procedure done, but i'm not sure yet. Any suggestions?
How can I lose weight effectively? I am a 19 year old female (5'1", 230 lbs). I have been trying to lose weight for a month but noting happened. I'm on a strict 1500 calorie diet, and I work out for an hour a day at a gym. The first few days I gained weight then I lost what I gained and continue to maintain my current weight. I tried lowering my calorie intake from 1500 to 1200 then 1000, and increased my workouts but still no luck. Also, I have been tested for thyroid disorders and diabetes and its all negative. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? My goal is to reach 175 lbs by next year. WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY AND DIET PILLS ARE NOT AN OPTION FOR ME.
Would you rather be thin but alone and poor, or chubby but rich and in love? With no option of surgery or weight loss, or getting rich, etc...

I really just need to know if they work or not. I'm not fat, weight loss doesnt help, surgery is not a option for me my insurance denied me, and please dont tell me to have kids to lose my boobs...i have 2 and they stayed the same size. weight loss regimen for female, bmi 40.1? I am an 18 year old female with a bmi of 40.1 (5'6, 250lbs). I am happy with the way my body looks, however, today I learned that I am developing arthritis in my knees due to my weight and that really effing scares me. I am looking to lose around 80-90 lbs, still "overweight", but out of the danger zone. I am open to all reasonably affordable suggestions, but I am not looking to be b**ched out about my weight. most of the excess weight is in my stomach, but also in my thighs and a bit in my butt. I would like to do my best to keep the fat in my backside and breasts, but I understand this is probably somewhat unavoidable. thank you ahead of time! also, at the moment, I cannot put tons of money into this. a gym or group membership, a book, a dvd, vitamins, acupuncture, etc are within reason, but options like surgery and pills like alli and others are a bit out of my range.
I had gastric bypass about 2 years ago..? And I had my little girl on Feb. 23rd of this year. While I was pregnant, I snacked whenever I felt like it, pretty much, but only gained ten pounds the whole pregnancy. When I had her, after the swelling left, I was back at my original weight. Now, she is six weeks old and I have gained 5 pounds!! I know that sounds stupid, but to someone who has had weight loss surgery (I went from almost 300lbs to 197 and am now 202) it is the most terrifying thing in the world. I just had to struggle into my jeans!!! I am in tears.. I think I stretched it, but I still get sick if I make a no-no.. but I eat more than my 3 meals which I KNOW I shouldn't, but I'm actually hungry, like my stomach will grumble! I have an appointment with my gastric doc next week, but I am wondering, if I did stretch it, do I have any options, or am I just screwed? Omg, I never wanna be that big again! I am HORRIFIED. Any info :( If I did stretch it, is lap band an option after gastric? Before pregnancy I was doing AMAZING. My life is also kinda in shambles right now because my husband is at Fort Gordon, away from us and I am living with my parents, who NEVER eat healthy and when I try to cook healthy they FREAK and won't eat... Advice? Tips? Info? -Very Scared
Can I burn away gyno through weight loss? Here's the deal. I'm about 5 feet 6 inches tall and I weigh 190 pounds. I have gyno, not too bad but my nipples are puffy and have been since I was a kid. But I workout pretty consistently and I really know what I'm doing when it comes to training. However, I'm high in bodyfat% at over 20%. I was 135 pounds up until I was about 17. Even at 135 pounds and 15% bodyfat I still had noticable nipple fat but at the same time I was very weak, my bench press was about 155 max at that time and now it's increased to 5 reps at 225 (not sure about max, probably about 260). I was wondering, is surgery my ONLY option? If I cut my bodyweight down to about 165 and got pretty lean then could I possibly burn away the gyno? I'll lose as much weight as possible because I really can't afford surgery and people would tell me I was stupid if I had surgery over that anyway, but please give me some feedback on if I could burn gyno through weight loss alone.
Sick Cat: High White Blood Cells and Weight Loss? Hi, I don't know if anyone else dealt with something like this and has any information/advice. My cat is currently at the vets getting some extra treatment, and the vet called me to update but the he had to leave for another appointment. I'm calling him back shortly, but was having trouble wrapping my head around everything he was throwing at me. My cat (2 years old) had been throwing up. At first just food but then she would be fine for a week, and then this weekend it went downhill and she was throwing up liquid (no blood) and not eating. She also started hiding, and wasn't nearly as active and affectionate as usual. I monitored her food intake, and it was much but she didn't throw up at all on Monday, but did late Tuesday night. She goes up to the food bowl like she wants to eat and then decides not to. She has lost weight and in dehydrated. She stayed at the animal hospital to get fluids, meds for her stomach to try and settle it, and some blood work. When the bloodwork came back, found out she has a high white blood cell count, indicating an inflammation somewhere. I have a second cat, who is completely fine so it probably not bacteria or a parasite. The vet gave her a shot of antibiotics and I have the option of taking her home and continue medication, but he said he thought it was serious. My next option is to get an ultrasound, but I don't know what that will show me that is actually actionable and couldn't really get a full answer from the vet. She has a heart murmur, so any surgery is not really an option. I'm thinking now that I might see how she reacts to the meds and hope for the best, especially since I don't think I can go anything that will be found from and ultrasound. I love my cat and want to help her, but also don't want to put her through any unnecessary tests if I can't do anything based off of them. I just wanted to see if anyone else dealt with this and had any thoughts and/or advice. Thanks so much!
Is it possible, to reduce the size of my boobs with out surgery? Also any suggestions on weight loss? I recently lost a lot of weight about a year ago & since then i've a lot of really loose skin! I really need to have the Lapband surgery. I can't get Financial help. What can I do? I am medically needing to get a weight loss surgery & decided that the lap band was the best route to go. I went to the seminar, got signed up, talked to the people and found out they had an option to self pay. Now, I can afford it monthly. I can more than afford it. Problem is, I don't have $15,000 that they need up front to pay for it, & my credit is so bad that I can't get a loan. Everyone I know (family, friends, co-workers, & even a few strangers) has bad credit and can't help. My mother was even willing to put her house up as collateral for this, but even still, her credit is bad enough that we can't use her house alone. Does ANYONE know ANYTHING I can do to get financial help in the state of TX, or maybe u know a pro-bono doctor? Maybe a loan place that helps people despite horrible credit? Oh, & please... helpful information. Don't preach to me about diet & excersize. If I had enough will power to keep up with that, I would have a long time ago! Please help!! Thanks
Weight Loss Question. Help!? I am 5'10~ 281 pounds. I want to be 165 by October. Surgery is not an option. I know diet and exercise and I recently bought some Trimspa. The only thing is I hate to run...any other simple exercises that have the same effect? I desperately need to lose this weight!
Help with weight-loss (becoming desperate)? Ok here goes (please try not to criticize). I am 26yr old mother of 3 (13, 8 & 22 months) and overweight. I have a extremely bad back (22 tumors, degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, 3 fractures, arthritis) I do 1-2 hours of cardio everyday and I do not eat a lot but it seems like I never lose any weight. I have tried a few diet pills (phentramine works good but can't find it anymore). I am the heaviest I have ever been and really starting to get depressed and hopeless. Surgery an option? Any ideas...especially if you have been in this position yourself! Any advice? No thyroid issues!
Besides WLS, are there other proven solutions to obesity? (Need citing references and no "just diet" answers) For severe obesity, weight-loss surgery cannot be the only solution! Are there any other options? Are there any coaches out there who can help with weightloss, fitness, nutrition, re-training the family, re-training attitude and beliefs about food, etc.? Added after the 1st two answers were pretty useless: I too believe that it is about curbing the diet and excersing. I also believe that the body can get addicted to food. That is why I call it a disorder. Once again, can someone provide PROVEN ways that has helped someone conquer this disorder by re-training the mind & habits, fitness, etc.? As in the original question, PLEASE do not provide a "just diet" answer, and PLEASE provide citing references. Thank you so much!!!
Weight Loss and Breast Size? About three years ago I used to weigh about 225 punds. Over the course of a year I went down about 75 lbs and over the past 5 months I went down an additional 25 lbs. I also went from having a 38C bra size to now having a 34-36 small B (possibly an A but I refuse to believe that). Also, whereas I didn't have any noticeable problems with symmetry before, my left breast is now smaller than the right one and they sag. Additionally, I also have some loose skin around my stomach, hips and thighs. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with such a breast size loss, or if there is anything that can be done about the loose skin and breast loss. I've read through some of the questions here about how surgery is ultimately the only option, but I'm hoping to find something non-surgical. Thanks for any help.
Weight loss, the safe and quickest way? Could anybody please tell me what is the best option or method in losing Weight fast and safely.i know the obvious is surgery but i'm not looking at that option. So any ideas or recipes would be more than welcome!
Extreme weight loss...and extra skin? My junior year in highschool, i lost about 65 lbs. I went from 5'4, 200 lbs to 135 lbs. I am now a freshman in college, and i STILL have extra skin. It sucks because it still makes me feel fat and i still cannot wear a bathing suit with confidence. So, it's been three years and the extra skin has not left my body. I heard toning doesn't work because you can't actually tone extra skin. I wanted to see a nutritionist but my mom thinks i won't really use it. Is surgery my only option? I'm upset that I reached my goal weight, but I feel like i look worse than i did before. Please help!
How to deal with loose skin after weight loss? This question has been asked many times before, but I would like to rehash it. My situation is that I have dropped my weight from 245 to 172. I lost the weight at various paces over the last year and a half. A nice flat stomach has been a big motivation for me, but now I am dealing with this excess skin around my stomach and sides. It is not an extreme amount, defiantly less skin than I had when I was 245. I am not going to be able to lose much more weight and maintain a healthy fitness ability. I do lots of abs exercises, I can do over 70 (correct) sit ups in two minutes. Surgery is simply not an option. What can I do? It is so frustrating to have worked so hard and consider the possibility that I can't have a flat stomach without surgery! For the person that I asked I didn't do anything extreme, just changed my eating habits and exercise about 5 days a week. At first white, skinless chicken breasts, water, veggies, oatmeal, eggs comprised 80% of my calorie intake. That helped me lose a good chunk of it coupled with exercise. I understand that surgery is a viable option but I am simply not comfortable with surgery.
NHS told me lose weight now my breasts hang to my waist. Why won't NHS help with the effects of weight loss I lost a lot of weight (stones), as was advised to by NHS Doctor. However, now I am more unhappy, than when I was very obese. My breasts never came down in size from (42D) with the weight loss, and now hang with extra skin, down to my waist. I have to lift them up to get into a bra and bathe underneath them. They are very heavy and can be painful, and hang out of most bras. I sought NHS help but have been turned down twice. I feel very angry as it was through the NHS advice that I lost all the weight. Why won't the NHS help with the aftermath of gross weight loss? Excercise has not helped my breasts. I often feel like cutting off my own breasts. I'm 37 and desperate. I would even be a guinea pig for a trainee plastic surgeon to practice on. I'm not vein and not wanting surgery for cosmetic reasons, but because my breasts are ruining my life. I cannot afford private treatment, so that is not an option. Thanks for all your help. I DID however, work out like mad, but I was told that no amount of excercise will tighten my breasts, as although no smaller, they are mostly just loose skin now. To (Mak....I believe it was?) For your information, my weight was NOT caused by over-eating, but in fact due to an underlying surgical condition, of which I'm now awaiting major surgery (June). I suggest you think, before answering questions.
Can I loose all the weight without having to have a tummy tuck? I have lost 70lbs and have 70 more to go, but I am already starting to see the exess skin forming on my belly. Is there any way to get rid of this? My weight loss was done by my own will power, not surgery. I really really really don't want to have to get a tummy tuck when this is all over with. Do i just have to accept the fact that my only option is uder the knife? Any possibilities or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am 20 if that makes a difference!
Will Gastric Bypass Surgery work for someone who is a compulsive over eater? My friend is over 400 lbs. She has tried all types of diets and commercial weight loss plans offered by Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. The most weight she's ever been able to lose is 25 - 40 lbs but she has never kept the weight off. She is a compulsive/emotional over eater and hates all forms of exercise. At 400 + lbs I doubt the traditional diet and exercise routine will work for her anyway because that doesn't address her underlying issues with food. Would gastric bypass surgery with a combination of psychotherapy be a viable option?
Eastern Medicine - answer for morbid obesity? After many years of dieting/counseling/etc. I am considering bariatric surgery. I, unfortunately, am quite cowardice when it comes down to it. So.. I am curious about alternative means of weight loss. I would be up for visiting an Eastern medicine practitioner or something akin to it, however I am in a fairly small town with limited options. I would also be up for hypnosis.. Has anyone tried either with any degree of success? And as far as combining diet and exercise, twenty years of attempting that and failing is almost enough for one lifetime.
What can I do about my depression and other ailments? I feel I am a bit of a unique case. I have been overweight my whole life and the consequences of dealing with that, school, and losing friendships led me towards suicide in 2004. I backed out at the last minute, but I also stopped believe in god and lost my ability to cry that very night. From there I went on, depressed, never being in a legitamate relationship, and "watched from the sidelines" as I threw my dreams out the window and sidelined my education for a stupid associates degree. I looked into surgery for weight loss and they told my I couldn't do it because I was depressed. They made me go to a psychologist. I've been going almost a year with no improvement. I won't take psychological drugs because I'm Straight Edge. My friends all have girlfriends and choose them over me and I feel like I am nothing more than the biggest failure and while suicide is not an option in my mind, I feel like it is pointless but I can't go on living like this... what can I do? YIM: rpgdarklord My psychologist, while not stating explicitly, has hinted that I suffer from social anxiety disorder which is why my relationships with people suffer. I have an immense fear of rejection as well due to my experiences with dating and women in the past. I just turned 20 in May and really have no further direction in my life.

I'm getting ready to start a diet. I'm 5' and 300 lbs at the moment. I know my skin is...? ...going to be stretched out but I also know that there are excerises that can help with that if you work them into your routine. I guess what I'm trying to ask is: What products, foods, and excerises can help with stretched skin due to weight loss? I know there is surgery that can remove the excess weight but I rather save that for touching up what I couldn't tone up myself. I'm also 22 and multi-racial (Black, Native American, Japanese, and Irish) if that helps anyone. The diet option I'm looking into is small meals throughout the day, low carb in take (2-3 "healthy" carbs throughout the day), lots of green vegetables, and moderate amount of dairy products. My weakness is that I do eat healthy-ish but I just overeat ALOT! So far, my excerise will be every other day for 1 1/2-2 hours. One hour of walking/jogging and 1/2 an hour of basic excerise (sit ups, push ups, yoga, and light weight training). Any tips, resources, and personal experiences welcomed!
Who else thinks this is COMPLETELY messed up? Ok, so as some of you know, I have recently started a new job. Yesterday and today, we had our orientation meetings in which all of our benefits were explained to us, we were given the option to join the union if we wanted, blah blah. So, as I was reading through the material provided, I saw that the insurance coverage WOULD NOT include coverage/payment for any prescriptions, doctor visits, or surgeries related to weight loss and/or obesity. It WOULD, however, cover an abortion, whether elective or medically necessary. Are you freaking kidding me!?!?! I think that has to be the most whacked out thing I have heard in quite some time. What do you think of that? Caroline - I never said I am that big, or need that surgery. All I said was that I thought it seemed awful that a company isn't willing to pay to help someone who is overweight get help, but they are willing to help pay to kill a baby. Maybe you should grow up, and realize that just because a person thinks extremely big people should get help too, doesn't mean that they are that person. Barbaric Swan - Did you seriously just say that fat people are not "good" people? Wow....and I'm the one who is getting called closed minded.....that beats all, I think! And, if everyone wants to look at it like "why help fatties lose weight"....well, because when more people are healthy, ALL of our insurance premiums are lower. And for that matter, why should we have to pay to cure someone who got cancer from smoking a pack a day, or cure someone with a genetic disorder....why do we pay for anything? Because society as a whole benefits when more of it's members are healthy.
Breast Lift/Breast Implants with Breast Feeding? I'm 16 in a few days and I plan to have a breast lift and breast implants when I'm 17 or 18 because my breasts sag due to weight loss from steroids. There is no bra or exercise to make my breasts look normal. The only option is surgery. So I plan to have them lifted and have the extra skin removed and implants to make them fuller (basically how they would normally look if I hadn't been put on steroids). So anyway I was wondering how this could affect breast feeding? If I have children, I'd like to breast feed so I was wondering if I'd be able to. Thanks. But they have to cut off my nipple to lift my breasts. Will that be a problem? Well my mom already knows I'm getting breast implants. She agrees I need them so I can just have normal looking breasts.
would loosing 100 pounds ruin my 1/2 sleeve tattoo? Im about to get the tattoo, its not a full 1/2 sleeve, only the front 1/2 not on the underside of my arm. Im 240 pounds, and want to get down to 140. If i loose weight SLOWLY, and do alot of exercise would it be ok? Or would it ruin the tattoo. I'll never have the $$ to get surgery to lift and tuck everything, so thats not a option. I just wonder if slower weight loss could help save the tattoo? Have any of you lost ALOT of weight and have a 1/2 sleeve? What did it end up looking like when the weight loss was over? thanks everybody.
What is the procedure to repair a cyctocyle and rectocyle? I was diagnosed with this plus something else (entocyle maybe?) I went to a Uro-gynocologist for a diagnosis and to see what my options are. He was very rude, barely spoke to me and gave me the bums rush out of his office ending the visit with "You're FAT and I wouldn't touch you unless you lost at LEAST 50 lbs." Well I've lost 82 lbs since this visit, but I would never go back to this jerk and I've given him bad ratings on every 'rate your doctor' sight on the internet. I was wondering if weight loss cures these conditions? Also if anyone has had this type of surgery please let me know how it went and what the recovery time was. Thank you!!
Serious stretch marks? Ok, I got some serious stretch marks due to a recent weight gain/loss. I'm back to my normal size but my stomach is basically ruined. I mean Freddy Kruger attacked me is what it looks like. Surgery is not an option so whats the next best thing? Any suggestions? I'm not expecting a miracle but any improvement would be nice. I'm not really worried about price too much so no one say that Palmer's for $4 at Walgreen's cause it doesn't work.
My doctors can't give me a good answer or direction to take. Can you help? Hi, My name is Matt and I apologize in advance for the long question. I've been having a chronic health problem for the past year and half now, and I'm not much closer to solving the problem of why I feel so awful than I was at the start. Different doctors will tell me I have things that other doctors say there is no way I have. Others tend to throw antibiotics at me, push me out of the office, and hope the problem magically disappears. My faith in health care professionals is ebbing away more and more everyday. Anyways, here are my regular symptoms: Loss of focus/concentration, extreme fatigue, constantly hungry, feeling very faint and weak kneed, stiff joints and muscles, stuffy nose, sore/tight throat, chest pain/tightness right along my sternum, irritability, and heavy breathing. For the past year and a half, I've exhibited these symptoms on and off. I have good days and bad days, but especially lately, much more so bad. Also, even the good days give me some fatigue, but the difference is pretty night and day. I feel a lot more capable. I've been diagnosed with a severe dust mite allergy, pumped full of medications, continued to get sick, and later found I had no allergy to dust mites according to another doctor and another test. The new doctor diagnosed me with chronic sinusitis. I've tried corticosteroids, antihistamines, nasal rinses, vitamins, and all sorts of things. The only thing that gives me any real relief is the sinus rinse, and that relief is pretty fleeting. Now I'm being told that I have allergies again, despite the fact that no allergy medication has done me any good, and the skin tests say I'm not allergic to anything. I've also recently had some new symptoms, on top of the old ones being more severe than usual (especially the fatigue, hunger, and faint feeling). They are: constantly thirsty, nausea, frequent urination (happens a lot, regardless of how much water I drink, always comes out crystal clear, and I can't seem to hold it at all), about 10 pounds of weight loss 2 weeks ago, and now, very little weight gain, despite eating like crazy. I've had a complete blood count recently. It showed my glucose as normal, so diabetes is not the problem. Kidney and liver functions were also normal. My lymphocyte level came in a little high at 47 (12-44 is normal), absolute neutrophils came in a little low at 1.67 (normal is 1.8-7.7). It looks like I have a slight anemia, because my hemoglobin came in at 13.2 (normal: 14-18) and my hematocrit came in at 38 (normal: 42-54). I've started taking a multivitamin, and eating more red meat in case of iron deficiency. Yet, I find it hard to believe that anemia is to blame for all of my new/worsening of symptoms, and more importantly, I've had numerous blood tests over the past year and a half, and never came up as anemic, so even if it is the complete cause for my new and worsened symptoms, it still doesn't explain my regular fatigue and general feeling like garbage for over a year. As for my habits, I generally eat a very healthy diet, and also exercise frequently. I'm in pretty good shape, and am in the right weight range for my height (6 feet tall, 170 lbs). Also, I'm only 20 years old, so I feel like I shouldn't be getting winded by taking the stairs, or needing a nap after 2 hours of work. The only hospitilizations I've had are for a concussion at age 16 sustained while playing rugby (very light concussion, blacked out for 10 seconds, can't remember some of that day, but I was fine after a few hours), and a surgery to take out my tonsils and open up my sinuses (which did seem to help my breathing a bit, but didn't stop the sickness from coming over and over and over). As for medications, I've been on pretty much every allergy medication around, and none of them stop me from getting sick. Plus, most of them leave me in an even worse brain fog than when I'm just feeling sick. I've also been pumped full of more antibiotics than I can count. At this point, I'm quite adverse to taking more medications, considering that none has helped me thus far, and they always, always come with side effects. I really just want to know whats wrong with me, whatever it is, so that I can get about fixing it. It's a number one priority for me, because it just makes everything in my life so much more difficult. Even the simplest classes and tasks and work become grueling when I'm feeling like this, and I'd say I feel like this about 85-95% of the time, especially as of late. My problem is, I'm at the end of my rope. My doctor's can't give me any good ideas or directions to take, they just tell me the other one is an idiot and that I need to just keep putting money in their pocket. I've tried so many options and been tested for so many things, and I can't seem to get a truly conclusive answer. I'm ready to try just about anything. In fact, I'm getting ready to make an acupuncture appointment, and maybe start taking some herbs. I mean, it may be a

Alright...Sick of My Unhealthy Lifestyle (10 Points-Need Help Please)? Ok, I'm 15, male, 120 pounds. Basically, I started working out 4 months ago, got no results, quit, and went back to junk food and no exercise. Kind of sick of this bs...I had surgery, so putting on muscle mass isn't an option. I'm gonna cut down body fat (yes, I know I'm underweight, but I still have a bit of body fat, I plan on gaining weight when the doctor removes restrictions). Can someone help me with a good diet? I don't know how many calories. My caloric intake has jumped from around 1,600 or so to 3,000 or so, to about 3,300, and back to 1,800-2,000, or somewhere around that. I have no idea what caloric intake I should have, and from what I've researched, it's not a good idea to jump too high or too low in calories for weight loss/weight gain. Where do I start? Did I already mess up by having my caloric intake all over the place? How many calories should I start off with now? A sample diet would help too.. Allison, I've seen people with the exact same reply as you, spamming has taken a new level, and if you're going to say "my wife and I", at least get a picture of a dude... Thanks Pat, and thanks Iv, guess you got my email. So idk what my actual caloric intake should be right now though, it's been all over the place.
Left breast will not stop getting larger? I've read up on how normal it is to have different breast sizes...but didn't find what I was looking for. I'm not so much concerned at the moment about anything being wrong with me as far as the actual size difference is concerned; I blame it on weight gain.. In the past 3 years, I've gained about 60 pounds. At age 20, I weighed 120 and had "perfect" breasts. Now at age 23, my left breast is immensely larger than my right, and continues to get bigger. Anyone looking at me closely can tell. I notice all day long looking down.. The majority of shirts I can't wear, and its a real embarrassing pain. I know my options with stuffing and such in the short term, but I'm looking for a longterm answer besides surgery. Most websites I've come across say woman stop growing by this time in their lives (age 23), but I'm starting back with exercising again and am wondering if there is anything in particular one can do to decrease one breast faster than the other.. I assume I can lose breast size with weight loss as I obtained this size with weight gain....

The CONS of birth control pills (Yaz)? First off, I'd like to say that I'm 100% sexually inactive. Secondly, I'm the type of person who is very anti-medication & never takes Advil for a headache because it's bad for your kidneys & liver. So, my gyno doctor perscribed me Yaz for a few small cysts outside of my ovaries. I told her I didn't want to be on birth control medication because I was sexually inactive, and I've heard about some TERRIBLE side effects to birth control, such as birth defects in offspring after being taken off the pill, weight gain/loss, etc. She told me that Yaz didn't come with those side effects. I kind of don't know whether or not to believe her. But it's not like I have a choice, because the only other option for removing my cysts is expensive surgery (or at least, that's what she told me.) So aaaaanyway, all I need is a second opinion on the side effects of Yaz. I've tried Googlin' it, but I can't really find anything. My main concern is birth defects, 'cause I want to have kids someday.
Treatments for recurent C.difficile? (not vanco or flagyl)? Two months ago I had my galbladder removed. From that surgery I got a CDD infection. I have been in the hospital twice for this. I have taken a two week dose of flyagil. And am currently on my 3 or 4th dose of vanco. My last test showed postitive for CDD toxins. I feel horrible and my symptoms are increasing (loss of apetite, weight gain, fatigue,etc...) The dr. who (who is pretty good) told me there was nothing else for me to take. I am also taking a anti-nasuea and acid reducer (those are new) to try to help me eat and keep food down. But I am frustrated that there seems to be a lack of options since I am still sick, keep having relapses and vanco is really expenseive. Does anyone have any similar experiences or ideas? thanks kc

My new doctor is trying to convince me that it's all in my head, but I find it hard to believe that all my symptoms for the past year and a half are psychosomatic. Plus, I've seen therapists, and had psychiatric evaluations, all of which came back with reports saying I'm handling life very well, especially given the circumstances. My doctor's can't give me any good ideas or directions to take, they just tell me the other one is an idiot, or that it's all in my head, and that I need to just keep putting money in their pocket. I've tried so many options and been tested for so many things, and I can't seem to get a truly conclusive answer. The only thing I can even remotely think of right now is multiple sclerosis. But of course, I don't have 4 years of medical school to really diagnose myself with. Does that seem likely given my symptoms? If not, what else could it be? Any ideas? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look
Still 42D, and heavy.

What kinds of Plastic Surgery does OHIP cover? I am currently on Disability for Mental Health issues among other things. I am a Man in my 40's and there are certain parts of my body that make me extremely self-conscious and embarrassed. This affects my self-esteem as well as adds to my depression. These are body issues that can't be fixed by weight loss or the gym as I am trying both. My lower abdomen protrudes over my genitals like an apron of fat but it isn't fat as I've consulted a Plastic Surgeon about it and liposuction is not even an option but I would have to get a body lift or tummy tuck ... not sure which. This has been a concern of mine for many, many years and I just recently had corrective surgery on removall of breast tissue from my chest which was covered. I do not want to be perfect but I would like to be able to go to the beach and wear a bathing suit that isn't huge and bulky in order to hide what is there. I can finally take my shirt off and now I would like to look at myself naked and feel ok. Any answers?
