Anyone had lap band weight loss surgery? I am thinking about having weight loss surgery, and I have heard that the lap band is alot less risky then bypass. Has anyone had it done, or know anyone that has?
What is the Lap Band (Weight-loss surgery) Post-op recovery time? I have been cleared for surgery and am only waiting for the Doctor's scheduler to call me. This is expected to occur in a week or so. Recently I have come to find out that the post-op recovery time is between 2-4 weeks! I am an accountant and have a pretty sedentary job (obviously) Do I really need to be off that long? I am not getting bypass so I thought that the time comittment would be far far less. I was expecting to be out perhaps 2 days after surgery. Can anyone please forward to me their experience?
a friend of mine had weight loss, lap band surgery and shes lost 28 lbs in 2 weeks, im jealous...how? how does it make u lose 28 lbs in 2 weeks????? shes not even that heavy, maybe 80 lbs? im 50 lbs over my weight /height chart and a size 9/10 in pants and m-L in shirts... can i have lap band surgery?
Is lap-band surgery a good option for weight loss? For a few years I`ve been overweight and I can`t lose the extra weight. I`m 5 ft 3 in and 176 lb. I should lose about 40-44 lb. I`ve tried many diets I found in magazines but the results were insignificant. I heard about the lap band procedure and how it works but is weight loss certain after surgery? Are there other good options out there? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Has anyone had the lap band surgery for obesity and weight loss? In most cases it is a day-surgery, so I've read. How long is recovery or what type of complications? This lap band surgery is supposedly less invasive than gastric bypass. I have years of yo-yo dieting and I'm over 100lbs my ideal weight with a lot of health problems that are exacerbated by being overweight.
Weight Loss Surgery (lap band)? I have been researching the lap band. I am 5ft 6in. 33yr. old woman and my weight ranges between 200 and 215 on a regular basis. My BMI is around 33. I tell others that I need to lose betwee 60 and 70 pound. Most find it hard to believe and say I carry my weight well. I have tried ediets, weight watchers, and dieting. My hunger seems to never be satified. I hardly ever feel full no matter how much I eat. I do not want to fat forever and I do not feel that I could loose this weight unless I do have this surgery. I have asthma, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and snore like a bear. This weight is becoming a major health issue. Does anyone have any suggestion or advice for me.
Anyone heard of lap-band surgery for weight loss? if so is it expensive? I have type 2 diabetes and have tried many diets to lose weight ..only to fail repeatedly.would like to try the lap-band surgery, but am hesitant to do it ...I am curious as to what it actually does to help you lose weight.
Problems with a lap band (weight loss surgery)? Ok, I've had one for several years. I lost considerable weight (over 30 kg), but then started gaining again. I though I was just eating more unhealthy food. BUT, I recently found out the band was broken. I had surgery to fix it a few days ago. I heard of another person having it "fixed" the same day as me in that hospital. By broken I mean: the tubes connecting the actual band and the port have somehow been disconnected, and the fluid came running out, deflating the band. Did anyone have this happen before? And how common is this even? Granted, having it fixed was not a tragedy, but it does mean surgery again. Is this a manufacturing flaw? What can cause it? And more importantly, how likely is it it will happen again?
Weight Loss Help - Lap-Band Surgery? I'm 33 years old, 5'5", I weigh 260# and I have a BMI of 40. I know that I need to lose weight, but I just can't. I have absolutely no willpower, and I'm so addicted to food that I always eat the wrong things. I've tried I don't know how many diets, but nothing helps. I'll lose 10 or 15#, but it always comes back on after I start to eat 'regular' foods again. My heart is strong, my blood pressure has NEVER been high, I don't have diabetes, my lungs are clear - I've never had any problems that other people usually have when they're this overweight. I don't drink or smoke, and I work 40 hours a week where I'm constantly on my feet and moving around. I would like to go talk to a doctor about having Lap-Band surgery, but I want to know if a doctor will do this surgery even if I don't have any of the bad side effects of being overweight. I guess my question is: Do you think I could just go ask a doctor to do that surgery to help me start a healthier lifestyle??

If my doctor told me that I needed weight loss surgery to save my life, Gastric Bypass or Lap Band? Which is better? Gastric Bypass Surgery or Lap Band? If I had 100 pounds to lose? If your preference is lap band over gastric bypass, please state why!
I have to Have Surgery to Correct a Previous Weight Loss Surgery. How Can I Keep This From People? 2 and a Half years ago I had Lap Band weight loss surgery. It was done by two Docs that had good reputations and after a couple years of research, they were the only ones that took my insurance. They completely screwed up the surgery and I never lost weight, so I didn't have to tell friends. Only my family knows. Now I am in extream pain and having a surgery to try to repair it. This time I have one of the best Doctors in the world operating on me. The thing is I don't want some people to know that I'm having a correction to weight loss surgery. When I had the first surgery, I was riduculed by several people saying that I took the easy way out. Believe me, it hasn't been easy. I've tried every diet in the world plus having a nighmare surgery and months of pain only to be told by those who know that it is my own fault. It's going to take several weeks to recover. What do I tell the people that won't understand, like aquaintences, coworkers, & some of my friends that just don't get It??
Anyone had the Lap Band surgery? Has anyone had the lap band weight-loss surgery that could share their experiences with me? The negatives, the positives, what you can and cannot eat, and so on. I'm looking into it but I'd like to hear other peoples' experiences before I pursue it further. Thanks!
Lap-Band surgery & Insurance exclusion...is there a way??? If surgical treatment for obesity is excluded in my policy, is there any way to UHC to pay, since obesity is considered a disease? I have United Health Care Choice Plus and I really want to have Lap-Band/weight loss surgery. I went to a seminar today and I just looked at my policy and it says that WLS is excluded. Is it worth appealing? Any suggestions on how I can get them to pay? PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME AN ANSWER LIKE "GO TO THE GYM" OR "EAT LESS". ONLY ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION, PLEASE. And don't tell me NOT to do the surgery. I'm not asking your opinions on weight loss surgery and dieting. I need some advice regarding my insurance. Thanks.
Help, Lap Band, Exercise, Still Can't Lose Weight!? I am Bi-Polar and have taken Prozac, Paxil, Lithium, Depakote, Wellbutrin, Topamax and now am on 75 mg. of Effexor a day. I have went from 135 to 235 in the past few years due to these meds. I had weight loss Lap Band surgery in June and have only lost 20 lbs. I only eat 900 - 1200 calories a day and exercise regularly and drink lots of water. I haven't lost weight in about a month now. I don't know what to do at this point! Help!!!!
What questions do I ask a doctor about weight-loss surgery? I know that I am extremely obese, and all my doctor ever tells me is "your BMI looks to be high" and that's it! I need to know what questions I NEED to ask uin order for him to give me a bit more info on this Lap-band surgery I've been looking at now for about 1 year.
What are some resources for finding help with gastric bypass and/ or lap band surgery? I have been mulling over the idea of having weight loss surgery. I am at least 100 lbs overweight and live every day of my life in pain from arthritis in my knees, ankles, and hips. The problem is, lapband surgery is $10,000, and gastric bypass is more. I work for a small nonprofit organization which is not capable of offering health insurance to its employees. Which means that any surgery I get I have to find assistance with or pay for out-of-pocket. As my job is with a nonprofit organization, by definition, I don't make a lot of money. : ) Any ideas?
Is it okay for me to have weight loss surgery? I am 15 years old and weigh 311 pounds, my height is 5' 10 I have tried dieting, and it is working. but I just get soo impatient!!! I never want to go to school and I suffer from Major Depression Disorder and Social Anxiety and some blood pressure disorder which im not being treated for. I wanted to know if it is okay for me to atleast have a lap band surgery? Some doctors say its okay but others say its not, if I can what site can I go to to find a specific doctor? No people! im not talking about bypass surgery, im talking about the LAP BAND surgery Nothing is being cut, only a special band is being place on my stomach. My mom says she supports me if I go throught it. I also already lost 14 pounds since February, but I get soo frustrated!! it seems like its soo little loss, and I don't even notice a change in my pants, yes they feel looser, but my t-shirt size is sooo frustrating! I already tried killing myself 3 times,
Medicare/Medicad and weight loss surgery? If you don't have insurance does the government pay for you to get weight loss surgery (lap band or gastric by-pass). I thought the answer was No but my friend says yes. Do you know?
has anyone here had weight loss surgery? has anyone has weight loss surgery - lap band, stomach stapling, barriatric surgery, gastric bypass, etc? if so, please give ANY info on it you have at all. am considering it. thank you ;)

question on health after lap band surgery? On lap band surgery for weight loss.Is there any web site with info I can pass on to my friend-she'd like to know step by step what happens after surgery-exact menu-exercises,etc.does weight stay off thanks
I am thinking about getting the lap band surgery to lose weight. I've tried everything else.? I would like to know about people who have had the surgery. what are some of the risks/complications. Is it worth it? Are you happier? Do you get hungry? I've noticed that a lot of ppl experience hair loss. Has this been a problem for you? Does it get better? What can I do to prevent the hair loss. I am 30, will I have a lot of excess skin? I am more than 100 lbs overweight.
Is there a milder version of the lap band surgery? I remember when rumors were running rampant about Nicole Richie's suspicious weight loss, one accusation said she had a procedure similar to the lap band surgery that yielded milder results. Is there a name for it? < 50 pounds.
Catholic views on weight loss surgery? Does anyone know what the Catholics think when it comes to someone getting weight loss surgery. Like lap band or gastric by pass? I have never heard anything against it either but I know that cosmetic surgery is considered bad and some might consider weight loss surgery cosmetic.
For people who have had weight loss surgery or who have someone close to them that has (spouse/other).? My fiancé's doctor recently brought up weight loss surgery to him. He is more then 100lbs overweight. The doctor told him that he has a metabolism like a multiple stomached mammal, another words it's extremely abnormally slow. He goes to the gym 3-5times a week each and every week. He's been on various special diets (doctor recommended for some). He's tried over the counter and prescribed weight loss/metabolism enhancers. And he's starting to get 'red' flags where his health is concerned. He's been under dr's supervision and the dr feels like they've tried just about all of the possibilities (only one other thing to try in his opinion) and is preparing my fiancé for the strong possibility of weight loss surgery. My fiancé has asked my opinion. And I'm trying to become as educated as possible about it. I've read about gastric bypass and I'm very weary of it. It's important to me that he lives a long healthy life, and with his current red flags that would be just about impossible. But the risks worry me greatly. And I just wanted to talk to other people who have experienced the surgery or how have had a person close to them have the surgery. My Questions: 1) Aside from Gastric Bypass and Lap Band Surgery, What could possibly be his other options? 2) How will his diet change? 3) If you've had the surgery, do you regret it? 4) If your spouse or someone else close to you, preferably someone who lives with you, has had the surgery, how did it affect you? 5) If your spouse or someone close to you had the surgery, how have you noticed it affected them (aside from the obvious weight loss)? 6) Is there anything else that can naturally enhance his metabolism? If you've got anything else to add aside from my questions please do. Thank you so very much for answering.
I am considering having the Lap Band surgery done.? The following questions are aimed towards actual lap band patients. How will I feel immediately after? When, what, and how soon will I be able to eat? When did you have it done and how much weight have you lost? Do you regret it? How do you feel now? How old are you? (I ask this because I recently heard of a 70 yr. old lady who had it done and is not doing too well.) If you have ANY other advice or something you want to share with me about the surgery, please do so. I have been wanting weight loss surgery for several years now. I am supposed to go Tuesday for my first appointment with the doctor.
What can you tell me about Lap Band surgery vs. Bariatric surgery? Has anyone had personal or professional experience with either of these? What information can you give me as far as success, risks, considerations, cost, follow-up care, happiness with the overall procedures? Thanks! :) Additional Details I've encountered people who have had bad luck with Bariatric surgery. Two that I know have died from complications. I'm also concerned about what happens with fast weight loss...what to do with all the extra skin. I saw at least one surgery on the Discovery channel where that was removed and the guy looked like he'd been sawed in half...it was horrible. I'm not that familiar with Lap Band, but a friend is considering it so I'm just looking for some information about it. Thanks!
If you have had the lap band surgery, what sort of supplementation do you take daily? I know it's not as much supplementation as with a GBP, but I was just curious.. do you do the protein shakes three times daily, or just take mvi with minerals??? I am really strongly considering the surgery- tired of the "roller coaster" of weight loss programs. Any other advise for me regarding how your life has changed for the better or worse post- op?
does anyone have any opinions about lapband surgery for weight loss? I'm very overweight and considering the lap band surgery. I have tried just about every diet pill out there. I've tried eating alot, eating nothing.. liquid diets, weight watchers, atkins, l.a. weight loss, and sooooooo many others. My thyroid has been tested, and has nothing wrong with it. SO i'm thinking this MAY be MY solution? Has anyone had it? Or know anyone that's had it? What are your opinions? Thanks!! :)
Physical Skin Results from Lap Band Surgery So I'm 17, 5'7, and 270 lbs. and I cant control my weight at all. At the beginning of this year I was 228 lbs and the pounds just keep increasing more and more as time goes by. I'm very active I play tennis, workout at the gym, and run or walk a few miles. I've tried using the pill Alli (orlistat) and nothing seems to be working. So I'm thinking about using the Lap Band system which I'm familiar with because my parents have had gastric bypass, but this is not the system I want to use. So basically I'm wondering why I cant keep my weight contralable, is it maybe because I come from previously obese parents or what?? My final question is with the weight loss from the lap band will I have flabby skin and skin hanging over my body. I see alot of participants of the gastric bypass have flabby saggy skin and I dont wont that. So I'm wondering if the lap band skin results are different. Thanks Only positive responses
What is the name of the weight loss surgery? I want to know the name of the weight loss surgery I think its new its not gastric bypass or the lap band theres another one what is it???
Weight-loss surgery? Is anyone on this site familiar with gastric bypass or "Lap Band" surgery? Have you or anyone close to you had either done? If so, would you recommend either one? What are the advantages and disadvantages in your opinion? Thanks!! I appreciate all input!
The FDA has recently approved adjustable lap band surgery for adolescents? I'm wondering if there are any parents here who have had their teen go through weight loss surgery and what the results were. There are only three centers nationwide approved for doing this surgery, one in Atlanta Georgia, one in New York, and one in California. I would be particularly interested in hearing from people who have used the one in Georgia. Did insurance cover this? Were there complications? Thanks! by the way, I'm only considering this because my son is 12 years old and weighs 230 pounds. The doctors refuse to put him on a diet because they say he will "grow into" his weight. Several doctors have told me to limit the sodas and the junk food, which we did a LONG time ago, but despite everything, he is still obese. well Denise, we already do all of those things, we have joined the Y, but they won't let kids under 14 work out there. My ex husband had weight loss surgery and is just fine. One person't bad experience doesn't mean nobody should do it, and we're not looking for an easy way out just exploring all the options. Thanks though.
Interested in weight loss surgery in Denver Colorado? I'm interested in weight loss surgery options in Denver colorado. In particular lap band procedures. Any one have any success?
Which weight loss surgery is the best and safest? I am a 31 year old female and I have been over weight from childhood. I have done everything from weight watchers to nutrisystem and nothing works. I am currently undergoing treatment for instability in my back after back surgery and the doctor is telling me that if I don't lose weight I will have another major meltdown in my back within the next 2 years. Which surgery is the best and the safest? Gastric Bypass or the Lap Band System. Please help!!
Why are so many people against lap band surgery? I've had my lapband for a year now and its the best thing that's ever happend to me. I tried diets, weight loss groups etc... nothing worked for me and same thing for thousands of other people. I've heard people say "its the easy way out" and its not, not at all. These people obviously don't do the research before making such rediciouls comments. I'm 100% against gastric bypass because that is dangerous and bad for your body, so i'm not talking about that. Any non rude imput please Somebody stated below that insurance covers it and thats why people have a problem with it? Well, hate to break it to you but it is extremely rare that an insurance company will cover a weight loss surgery, so I don't know where you're getting your information from, you best get it right before insulting obese people. Also, it does not require regular counceling, you can go in and get it tightend if you want to, it is purely your choice. You can go in and talk to them, again, your choice. Alot of people get their bands, get a few fills and never go back. They are perfectly happy with their lives. The lapband is not complicated in the least bit.
Lap-Band Surgery? Has anyone had this procedure done? How was the surgery? How was/is the weight loss going? Do you feel sick or feel good?Have you had any problems with the band?Do you regret getting it?Any information on your expierence would be great.I have read all about it on the internet,I am getting the Lap-Band after the beginning of the year.Is it worth it? Did she have the Lap-Band or the gastric Bypass?
Has anyone had lap band surgery I'm considering having lap band surgery, has anyone out there had it? If so how much weight did you lose? What was your average weight loss in the beginning? Did you have any complications?
Want to ask a real bariatric / gastric bypass / lap band weight loss patient something? A brilliant new tool is available at http://www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com/testimonials/lap-band-patient-qa.php where you can ask a weight loss surgery patient your specific answer and have the patient give you a tailored response to your exact question. No more reading though hundreds of testimonial pages that can be doctored up by the doctor. My question is how useful was this tool for people looking for info on gastric bypass and lap band procedures and how can it be improved. 10 points to the best comment/suggestion. Im not asking for opinions on the procedures.. I know that is somewhat controversial. Please read my question and respond what I am asking.
By-Pass, Lap Band and Lupus/Fibromyalgia Patients.....? I am 40 yrs old. Female, About 328 lbs (stable weight for several years). I have Lupus and Fibromylagia which cause me a great deal of pain. The Fibro and Lupus are becoming a great disability and I know my weight isn't helping the issues at all. I am on about a dozen different meds a day just to function. I've tried to diet and I don't lose anything, not even water weight. I've been thinking for a few years about having the by-pass or lap band surgery but I'm really scared on so many levels. Please share your experience and weather you would do it again or not. I'd even love to hear from family members of weight loss surgery patients, especially if they had/have Lupus and/or Fibro.
How much does it cost to have excess skin removed after weight loss surgery? I am extremely interested in having Lap-Band surgery, however, I do not have a lot of money and I dont want to go through with it if I can't follow it through to the end, which will result in me having to have my excess skin removed. Does anyone know the type of cost for something like this? And can it be done for cheaper/ free if the skin is donated for skin grafting on burn victims? Pleaseee help!
How can I assist my skin to retract after weight loss?? I am going to have the Lap Band surgery in 30 days time and right now I am 352 but the goal is 200. I am SO paranoid about the excess skin from the rapid weight loss. Is there any(sensible) methods to try and utilize while losing weight? I just hate to think of $40,000.00 in skin augmentation surgery. Any help would be great and thanks for reading! Bubba
A question about lap band surgery if asthmatic? A friend of mine has struggled with her weight since we were about 14 years old. She is a pretty girl, she has gorgeous bone structure and facial features. She is what medical personnel would consider obese and it's affecting her daily life. She hates going anywhere in public or meeting new people because she constantly thinks people are making fun of her. She's tried diets, excercise, weight loss supplements and diet aids and she loses only mininmal amounts of weight. Recently she learned that the lap band surgery would be covered under her insurance, though her cousin who has the same insurance said she tried and they wouldn't do it because she's asthmatic - that there is too much of a risk for asthmatics given anesthetia, but I'm asthmatic and never had complications of being put out and my friend has also been given anesthia and had no problem. I told her to ask about it anyway but she's shy about it. Has anyone ever been told this? By the way I read in an online article that lap band surgery in asthmatics greatly reduced the need for asthma medications and risks. Also my friend's cousin is a bit of a compulsive liar and it wouldn't be beneath her to lie about being denied the surgery simply so my friend wouldn't try to get it and then her cousin wouldn't be the only fat girl in the family.
What are your views on weight loss surgery? such as gastric bypass and the lap band. Personally, i think they are just medically-induced anorexia. It completely deprives your body of the nutrients it needs. sure, it works quickly, but eventually, you'll just keep getting skinnier because you can't build any muscle. or, you'll hit a plateau, and gain back all the weight. if you've had it, i'm not trying to judge you. tell me why you like it so much and how it's benefited your life. it drives me nuts when people just jump into the surgery, without even attempting to workout or lose the weight on your own. what i've found from talking to people is that most of them eat worse now that they've had the surgery. because they crave the junk, then they don't have room for anything healthy.
Weight loss surgery? I would like to get the gastric by pass surgery or lap band- I have insurance.. does anyone know how i should begin the proccess? Should i find a doctor that does the procedure then he gets me qualified through insurance or do i start with my primary doctor? I live in NY

Weight loss surgery if you don't qualify?? So I want to lose a LOT of weight but diets, diet pills, even NOT eating doesn't work for me. I really want to have surgery (like gastric bypass or lap band) but I don't weigh enough by anyone's standards. Does anyone know of anywhere you can go who'll do something like that when under normal standards you aren't overweight enough?

What insurance companies cover weight loss surgery? I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE LAP BAND WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY BUT MY INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER IT. I HAVE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELDS I NEED TO KNOW WHICH COMPANY I SHOULD GET A POLICY FROM TO COVER THR COST OF SURERY.
lap band procedure feed back please? I am looking for feedback from anywho has had lap band surgery. Are U happy with results? What was the biggest "set back" or disappointment? For those who are familiar..lap-band or gastric-bypass? Seriously considering weight loss surgery but am torn between the lap-band procedure or gastric-bypass. If you have some knowledge of either or both...what would you choose?
Weight Watchers points question? I have a BMI of 31 which technically is obese, but I don't qualify for any kind of lap band or weight loss surgery. So I guess I have to do it the hard way. I don't want to pay outrageous fines at meetings, plus my schedule is pretty full with going to college and working. My question is, how many points do I need a day to lose weight? I'm 5-7 and weigh about 195 pounds.
Weight Loss Lap Band Surgery? I have just been denied a referral from my insurance company to have a Bariatric Consult. I was hoping to have lapband surgery. I have had a weight problem most of my life. I am 53 yr old female and have address the issues that led to my weight problem with a therapist. After two years the therapist says I am a excellent candidate for this surgery. My primary care doctor says the same. Knee problems, one replacement already, high blood pressure, foot pain, begining stages of cornonary artery diseaseand 125lbs of extra weight are not enough to get the insurance company to approve a consult with the surgeon to see if I am a candidate. What do I do? They state I have not had a documented unsucessful weight loss program in the last year. Crap I diet every single day! What should I do?
What is your opinion on weight loss surgeries? Do you think getting a lap band or a gastric bypass surgery is worth the risk, scars, and food limitations you are put on afterwards( I've heard you can't drink soda/pop any more and nothing high in sugar)? I kinda feel like it's almost patetic that someone needs to have major surgey because they can't stop stuffing their face and put down the bon-bon's. Is this a bad way of thinking?
Would you consider surgery for weight loss? Would you go for Gastric Bypass or Laparoscopic Gastric Banding (Lap Band)?
Need Workout Plan - Overweight - Losing, New to exercising? Hi, I'm 34 female 5"8 and 220. A few months ago I decided to change my life and get thin again (I have been overweight for the last few years only). I have a membership to a gym. I had lap band weight loss surgery 2 mo's ago and I am medically cleared to hit the gym. I get bored very easy. I know to lose maximum weight cardio is very important. If surgical treatment for obesity is excluded in my policy, is there any way to UHC to pay? Thanks.
Has anyone had the lap band surgery recently? Its for weight loss and I would like your opinion if it worked or not. One friend lost 150 lbs in 2 yrs, but another had a bad time after having it a few months ago. I'm considering it. Thanks in advance.

Should I do a Liver Cleanse if my Gallbladder has been removed? I read a book and I think my stalled weight loss despite Lap Band surgery, low calorie, lots of exercise and small portions could be due to fatty liver. Want to cleanse it. Have read Fat Flush diet and Ultra Metabolism. Don't want to get sick though. Can I do a cleanse if I have no gallbladder?
