What are your thoughts on teenagers receiving weight loss surgery? Denies the real problem or life saving? After recent increases in the number of teenagers getting gastric bypasses and other types of surgery, it is widely becoming accepted quickly. However, is it right? Do you think if it saves lives, of course! Or, alternatively, do you think that these kids should approach weight loss from a wholistic perspective (dealing with their emotions through psychological counselling, complimented with education about proper nutrition and exercise?)

I have to Have Surgery to Correct a Previous Weight Loss Surgery. How Can I Keep This From People? 2 and a Half years ago I had Lap Band weight loss surgery. It was done by two Docs that had good reputations and after a couple years of research, they were the only ones that took my insurance. They completely screwed up the surgery and I never lost weight, so I didn't have to tell friends. Only my family knows. Now I am in extream pain and having a surgery to try to repair it. This time I have one of the best Doctors in the world operating on me. The thing is I don't want some people to know that I'm having a correction to weight loss surgery. When I had the first surgery, I was riduculed by several people saying that I took the easy way out. Believe me, it hasn't been easy. I've tried every diet in the world plus having a nighmare surgery and months of pain only to be told by those who know that it is my own fault. It's going to take several weeks to recover. What do I tell the people that won't understand, like aquaintences, coworkers, & some of my friends that just don't get It??

I have not called Tricare to question if they support weight loss surgery as of yet. I thought I would first see if anyone out here is cyber space has been through what I am contimplating. If there are any military wives out there who have successfully had Tricare Prime pay for their weight loss surgery, or maybe you know someone who has... I would love to hear your stories, ideas and suggestions on how I could possibily get the ball rolling in this matter. FYI- we are currently stationed at Fort Hood in Texas if that makes any difference. Thanks so much.

Would you consider weight loss surgery to be a doctor approved form of anorexia nervosa? I have had several friends who have had the procedure done, and I don't understand what the difference. They don't eat as much as they did, and they take vitamins, so really, what is the difference between the 2? I really don't want this to seem disrespectful. Like I said I have had friends who have had the surgery. I am just trying to figure it out. Thank you Abby, I should have clarified some things. I think Anorexia Nervosa is the wrong term. I should have said an eating disorder. I do know what anorexia is. I have suffered from it, and now I see my friends eating the same, if not less than I was eating. Why is this ok?
Has anyone deducted Weight Loss Surgery on taxes? If you finance the surgery through a bank, can you still get the tax deduction? And how do you do it? Do I save receipts, and get an accountant? Any insight into this is appreciated.

I am strictly trying to gather information about a possible alternative
What are your views on weight loss surgery? such as gastric bypass and the lap band. Personally, i think they are just medically-induced anorexia. It completely deprives your body of the nutrients it needs. sure, it works quickly, but eventually, you'll just keep getting skinnier because you can't build any muscle. or, you'll hit a plateau, and gain back all the weight. if you've had it, i'm not trying to judge you. tell me why you like it so much and how it's benefited your life. it drives me nuts when people just jump into the surgery, without even attempting to workout or lose the weight on your own. what i've found from talking to people is that most of them eat worse now that they've had the surgery. because they crave the junk, then they don't have room for anything healthy.
will my car insurance pay for surgical weight loss surgery? i live in michigan and have no fault benefits. i was involved in a car accident 2 years ago and lost my leg resulting in weight gain and need to stabilize my weight to wear prostheis. my doctor wants me to get the surgery and has scheduled an appointment with the weight loss clinic.
What is the Lap Band (Weight-loss surgery) Post-op recovery time? I have been cleared for surgery and am only waiting for the Doctor's scheduler to call me. This is expected to occur in a week or so. Recently I have come to find out that the post-op recovery time is between 2-4 weeks! I am an accountant and have a pretty sedentary job (obviously) Do I really need to be off that long? I am not getting bypass so I thought that the time comittment would be far far less. I was expecting to be out perhaps 2 days after surgery. Can anyone please forward to me their experience?
Is it any different for medication to digest after weight loss surgery? Have you had weight loss surgery and what did you go through? I know many hav asked this question before but I need some new information for myself. I am quite young but I am also 280lbs. For my height that is way too much weight, I just wanted to know what the process was like, from going into the hospital to coming out. I am losing hope and patience. At this point I am willing to do surgery just to get the weight off. Can anyone help me with words of advice? Encouragement or concerns?

Have you considered Gastric Bypass Surgery for weight loss? Here's some tips!? Gastric bypass: Is this weight-loss surgery for you? Are you a candidate for gastric bypass surgery? Find out what to expect and the benefits and risks involved. It's always best to lose weight through a healthy diet and regular physical activity. But if you're among those who have tried and can't lose the excess weight that's causing your health problems, weight-loss (bariatric) surgery may be an option. Gastric bypass, which changes the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest, is the favored bariatric surgery in the United States. Most surgeons prefer this procedure because it's safer and has fewer complications than other available weight-loss surgeries. It can provide long-term, consistent weight loss if accompanied with ongoing behavior changes. Gastric bypass isn't for everyone with obesity, however. It's a major procedure that poses significant risks and side effects and requires permanent changes in your lifestyle. Who is gastric bypass surgery for? Generally, gastric bypass surgery is reserved for people who are unable to achieve or maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise, are severely overweight, and who have health problems as a result. Gastric bypass may be considered if: ·Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity). ·Your BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and you have a serious weight-related health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Gastric bypass surgery doesn't replace the need for following a healthy diet and regular physical activity program. In fact, the success of the surgery depends in part on your commitment to following the guidelines given to you about diet and exercise. As you consider weight-loss surgery, make sure that you make every effort to exercise, change your eating habits and adjust any other lifestyle factors that have contributed to your excess weight http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass/HQ01465 http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass-diet/WT00007 http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastric-bypass-surgery/AN01378 I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I’m 180 and holding, after 1 year and 7 months. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I’m down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18. Most people struggle with paying for the surgery. Go to this site, it is a great support system for you, because it’s only people who have had gastric bypass. Every insurance program has been rated, and you’ll get tips on how to deal with your insurance company, as well as, surgery tips, food tips, and just support. http://www.obesityhelp.com/ There is a very good web site by a guy named Basil White. He’s a govt. worker and a comedian. He walks you through everything. Very interesting. He had the surgery and did well. http://www.basilwhite.com/gastric/ Some other helpful links… http://dir.yahoo.com/Health/Diseases_and_Conditions/Obesity/Gastric_Bypass_Surgery/ http://www.stapleclub.com/general_info.htm http://www.locateadoc.com/articles.cfm/1454/1337 http://www.dhmc.org/webpage.cfm?site_id=2&org_id=28&morg_id=0&sec_id=0&gsec_id=35507&item_id=35508 http://www.mygastricbypass.com/ http://www.gwdocs.com/health/eHA-eHA_Content_C-Generic_Content_Page_Template_1131123706877.html Good luck with your surgery and new life! What do you think?
Is weight loss surgery healthy? That is the best way I have found to phrase this question. I tried asking this question yesterday but I do not think I phrased it right so I did not get the answers I was looking for. I am curious as to it being unhealthy compared to anorexia. I understand that anorexia is a mental disorder. I also understand that weight loss surgery is not. But is the limited food intake comparable to anorexia? I understand that a large person cannot be anorectic, because being anorectic involves having distorted image of ones self. Isn't rapid weight loss a sign of anorexia? And isn't the rapid weight loss a result of not being able to eat, either physically or emotionally, wouldn't that be considered anorexia also? I am not trying to be disrespectful, I am just trying to understand this. I have struggled with an eating disorder in the past, and I have friends who had weight loss surgery. I see them acting the same ways as I have in the past. I want to notice if something is wrong.

Weight loss surgery answers...? Why do people get so offended when you answer their weight loss surgery question differently than they were hoping? If people want only yes and positives then don't post the question. And the other people who answer get mad when you say something negative or to the contrary. People are entitled to their opinion, and the asker asked for their opinion/answer.

I have reached my heaviest which is 300lbs> I know that after the baby some of the weight will come off but not 150lbs of it. I think two kids is all I want but my husband would like to have more. If you have had weight loss surgery, can you join a slimming club? My Mum had weight loss surgery - her stomach stapled. And she is not doing very well atall. She had the surgery in may last year and has only lost a stone. She should have lost alot more then that as she is quiet a big lady - but not huge. I am worried that theonly option for her to slim down has failed, and yes it is her fault because she still eats sh!t and cant stop herself. She had the surgery in Belgium as she could not afford it over here £4,500 over there and £8,000 here! She is only meant to be able to eat a tiny bit of food every so many hours- but she manages to eat much more then that but she is most of the time sick! I think the biggest reason is because her body has had the change but her mind has not (over here you get counciling etc)whereas is Belgium its just the op nothing else. She is thinking of joining a slimming club (which she did before the op unsuccesfully). I think she needs some sort of counciling to help her mind go off bad foods, What do you guys think? Than

I'm pretty much of perfect health except for some post natal depression being terribly overweight . My parents have put it too me that I should consider having surgery and they will cover the costs for me as they are worried I'm going to have a heart attack and leave behind my two beautiful boys. Having surgery was initally my idea, and yes I have tried everything from Tony Ferguson to Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers ect and go to the gym three times a week and train with a personal trainer and still can never lose more than 10kgs..... I would love to hear stories good or bad about having weight loss surgery and would like people's opinions too... thanks for your time Please dont think that my parents are ashamed of me, as they're not they just dont want to see me dead from a heart attack before I'm 40. If there was some way that you could help your child wouldnt you do everything in your power to make sure they had a happy healthy life??????

I have never heard anything against it either but I know that cosmetic surgery is considered bad and some might consider weight loss surgery cosmetic.
Does anyone else have aetna Ins. for weight loss surgery? Hello, I am in the middle of trying to get approved for weightloss surgery. I have done 5 of 6 months dr supervised weight loss appempt. I live in Illinois, and I have been unsuccessful in losing weight, I have even gained about 10 pounds. Is this a reason to deny me if all my other paper work comes in ok? I am afraid I am not going to be approved since I have had such a hard time trying to lose the weight. Any help would be great!

I want to have a weight loss surgery and I believe it costs about 50 Thousand Dollars. I need to find an insurance company to help cover the costs. Would I choose a plan where I pay a high deductable?? Do I tell them immediately that I would like surgery, and which plan would be right for me? How does this work? Weight Loss Surgery (lap band)? I have been researching the lap band. I am 5ft 6in. 33yr. old woman and my weight ranges between 200 and 215 on a regular basis. My BMI is around 33. I tell others that I need to lose betwee 60 and 70 pound. Most find it hard to believe and say I carry my weight well. I have tried ediets, weight watchers, and dieting. My hunger seems to never be satified. I hardly ever feel full no matter how much I eat. I do not want to fat forever and I do not feel that I could loose this weight unless I do have this surgery. I have asthma, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and snore like a bear. This weight is becoming a major health issue. Does anyone have any suggestion or advice for me.
Diet after weight loss surgery? I was wondering if you ate the same things and amounts instead of getting the surgery, would you be ok? It just doesn't seem that you could get enough nourishment on that little food. But if you could eat that amount instead , without the surgery, couldn't you lose weight without the surgery. I just worry about not being healthy, but seems like people who have had the surgery seem ok. Is there any place on the web that tells you exactly what to eat after surgery ? I would like to try to eat that and see what I would lose. Help me out here.
Laprascopy Surgery? Weight Loss? Cyst? If I have this surgery to remove a complex (a least 5cm) cyst that has gone unchecked by sonorgram since October (will be rechecked this week).....then can I possibly lose weight after surgery? I go months, even a year or so, with a period because of this reoccuring cyst and so it has obviously caused a major hormonal imbalance. Is it typically common to lose a bit of weight? I was always very frail as a child and growing up and then when this happened I have gained a lot of weight in my lower abdomen...and nowhere else! I can't help but think this cyst is causing this. Anybody else out there share this problem...or had surgery and had some significant weight loss afterwards? Thanks and yes I do work out but a cyst permits hormonal imbalance so there is only so much I can medically do to prevent weight gain. I don't have pcos just one cyst

pre-surgery weight loss program? A diet for people preparing for surgery, fast weight loss? Does anyone know of a diet that they put patients who are planning to have surgery on. It has something to do with multiplying your weight and somehting else to determine the amount of calories you should take in. I have heard it is a fast way to lose weight. How to do this diet?
Have you had weight loss surgery? If so can you please help me? I have to write 3 years of attempted and failed weight loss regimens and why it failed . I have never tried a diet for an entire 3 years so I am not sure how to write this out without incriminating myself. Does that make sense?
Have you gone through weight-loss surgery? This is not an invite for people to critisize someone's choice, but only to share valuable information. I would like to hear from those of you who have used surgery to take off weight. Be it Gastric Bypass, stomach stapling, or the newer stomach banding. Was it worth it? Did you have many complications? Did your health insurance cover the costs? Because of the personal nature of this question, I understand if you would rather answer by email, so feel free to click on the link in my profile. Thanks!
Problems with a lap band (weight loss surgery)? Ok, I've had one for several years. I lost considerable weight (over 30 kg), but then started gaining again. I though I was just eating more unhealthy food. BUT, I recently found out the band was broken. I had surgery to fix it a few days ago. I heard of another person having it "fixed" the same day as me in that hospital. By broken I mean: the tubes connecting the actual band and the port have somehow been disconnected, and the fluid came running out, deflating the band. Did anyone have this happen before? And how common is this even? Granted, having it fixed was not a tragedy, but it does mean surgery again. Is this a manufacturing flaw? What can cause it? And more importantly, how likely is it it will happen again?
weight loss surgeries...if you can adhere to the surgery guidelines, why not diet? ...there have been several people I work with who have undergone weightloss surgery. I applaud their efforts to be healthy- but the dietary requirements are very strict- if you can stick to those- why not diet? For the record, I have struggled with weight my entire life...over the past 2 years I have lost weight very slowly...totalling 140 pounds. I was a candidate for the weight loss surgeries...but had a doctor who sat me down and asked.."have you really committed to a weight loss program? please consider that before you elect to have this surgery"... I think the rise of surgeries is part of our society's need for immediate gratification. Whether that is popular or not- that is MO.

Is lap-band surgery a good option for weight loss? For a few years I`ve been overweight and I can`t lose the extra weight. I`m 5 ft 3 in and 176 lb. I should lose about 40-44 lb. I`ve tried many diets I found in magazines but the results were insignificant. I heard about the lap band procedure and how it works but is weight loss certain after surgery? Are there other good options out there? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Anyone had weight loss surgery? I need to find information on the best vitamin, mineral and protein supplements. Also foods that work well for WLS patients.
