Cosmetic surgery is an elective surgery that reshapes normal structures in the body in order to improve ones physical appearance. This type of surgery is not needed, but wanted by patients. When is cosmetic surgery understandable, and when is it excessive? What different types of cosmetic surgery are there? Without the help of insurance, how does one find ways of affording cosmetic surgery?
In this article, I will introduce different types of cosmetic surgery, talking about several of the more popular procedures in depth. Further, I will discuss the costs of these procedures. Finally, I will cover cosmetic surgery financing.
There are endless types of cosmetic surgery procedures. Every part of the human body could be altered in some way to make the patient feel more self-confident. Several more popular procedures include:
One must wonder: “Are all of these procedures necessary?” For some, the thought of plastic surgery seems natural. For others, plastic surgery seems like it should be reserved for those who really need it. The reasons for someone to choose plastic surgery are just as endless as the procedures they can choose from. Many people simply want to look normal. Others want to achieve a higher level of self-confidence. Then there are people who want to look as close to perfect as possible. To normal individuals, the thought of going under the knife over and over to achieve perfection seems insane. Still, so many men and women are caught up in this surgical nightmare, never thinking that they are good enough. The answer to why something like this can happen is not a hard one to think of. Today’s media displays beauty as if it is the end-all and be-all of mankind. Everywhere people go, there are constant reminders that beauty is “right”. On television, in magazines, out shopping, on the Internet, in movies. Of course, people are going to look at these beautiful beings and think “Why cant I look like that?” Well, now (for a price) you can.
Name that price? It all depends on the procedure desired. Less expensive operations, such as eyelid lifts and lip lifts, can range from $2,000 to $3,000. On the other hand, more involved procedures can be extremely pricey. For instance, a face lift can total to $8,000, and a multiple area liposuction can cost $10,000. The cost of cosmetic surgery can be steep, but that does not stop millions from paying the price.
Cosmetic breast surgery is one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery. Types of breast surgery include breast enlargement, breast reduction, and breast lift. Of course, when speaking of breast enlargement, women (by far) receive the operation more than men. However, in terms of breast reduction, many men are deciding to jump on the “change the way my chest looks” bandwagon. About half of all men on the planet currently have a condition known as gynecomastia, in which one or both of the breasts are overgrown. This means that the breasts may resemble those of a female more than a male. Women that decide to have breast reduction surgery usually struggle with health-related issues because of their over sized breasts. These problems include back pain and sleeplessness, among other things. In the above cases of breast reduction, I believe that breast surgery is completely understandable. The people in the above instances are trying to achieve a more normal appearance and increase their self-confidence. However, Many instances of breast enlargement (in my opinion) are unnecessary. So many women want “perfect” breasts. I believe that those women should learn how to be satisfied with the body that they have. Risks of breast surgery could include leaking or rupture of the silicone implant, which can lead to many other health problems. The implants also make breast cancer hard to detect. Further, there is a high chance of re-operation to remove or replace the silicone bag with all breast enlargement surgeries. The cost of breast surgery can range from $5,000 to $8,000, depending.
Another popular form of cosmetic surgery is performed on the eye. Cosmetic eye surgery, in most cases, means an eyelid lift. The results of this surgery include looking more awake and being able to see more clearly. In this procedure, extra skin is removed from either above or below the eye. This skin, in some cases, actually hinders the patients overall vision and adds unwanted pressure on the eyes. The risks of this surgery include blindness in 1 in 10,000 people. This is caused by bleeding in the fat components. Blurred vision is also a possibility, as well as dry eye syndrome, inability to close the eyes, and the appearance of hollowed, sunken eyes. The cost of this procedure can range from $2,000 to $3,000, once again, depending on the particular case.
How does one manage to pay for this surgery when insurance coverage is not part of the picture? Financing for plastic surgery is similar to an unsecured personal loan. There is no collateral for the loan and nothing to reposes if the patient decides to stop the payments. The patient’s credit is carefully evaluated in order to determine the patient’s level of reliability. Other important factors include:
Cosmetic surgery financing for bad credit is not an easy thing to do. Many steps must be taken to show that the patient is reliable. In many instances, patients with bad credit cannot find financing for their surgeries.
After discussing all of these surgical procedures, Lets discuss the person that will be performing the procedure. Many people around the world pose as surgeons in order to “make a quick buck.” As wrong as this is, many people fall into the trap of “pay half the price, get the same results”. Checking the background of your chosen surgeon is always an excellent idea. One way of doing this is to get in touch with a cosmetic surgery center. Many complications associated with plastic surgery can be avoided by choosing a reputable doctor that has been in business for an extended length of time.
To conclude, plastic surgery has been steadily on the rise for a number of years. Even though I disagree with some of the procedures being performed, in the end, the choice is the patients. Even though many people are going under the knife for unnecessary reasons, it does not change the amazing fact that cosmetic surgery gives self-confidence back to so many people each and every day.
